The Shinty Round-up - Updated. | |
25 October 2008 Only 2 matches survived the terrible weather conditions on Saturday 25 October 2008. In the Marine Harvest Premier League, the match between Fort William and Lovat was due to take place at An Aird but the the field was unplayable. The match was switched to Balgate in order to fulfil the fixture and for the second week in a row, bottom club Lovat took a point from a top 3 side as they followed up last week's share of the points with Newtonmore, with a 3-3 draw with Fort William. The Lovat scorers were Jim MacKenzie, Owen Ferguson, who also scored against Newtonmore last week, and Jamie Matheson. The Fort's opening goal was scored by U17 player Paul Wood, his first goal for the senior team, Bryan Simpson and Drew Ferguson getting the others. This result means that Fort William finish the league on 23 points. However their second place standing is under threat as Newtonmore are only one point behind them, with home and away fixtures with Inveraray still to play. The only other match played was in Marine Harvest North Division 3, Glenurquhart enforced their status at champions as a David Stewart double gave them a 2-1 win at second place Boleskine. Kevin Hunter replied for the home side. This means that Glenurquhart have scored 92 goals in their 18 league matches this season an average of just over 5 goals each game. Their total is only 2 goals less than Marine Harvest National Premier League Champions Kingussie managed in their 18 games. |
