The North U14s had a comprehensive 10-0 win over their South rivals in the Fraser MacPhee Trophy at the Dell, Kingussie on Sunday 5 October 2008.
This representative match was first played for in 2003 and the North have a 100% success record.
The match is played in memory of young Fort William player Fraser MacPhee. Fraser was a great competitor for whom sport and friendship transcended competition.
The North took the lead with as quick a goal as you'll see at a shinty match. Referee Garry Reid blew his whistle and threw the ball up between the full centres Martin Bruce from Skye for the North and Gary McKerracher from Oban Celtic for the South. Bruce connected first with the dropping ball and sent it high towards the South penalty spot where it landed at the feet of Lochaber's Stewart Callison. He dispatched the ball past the out-stretched foot of South keeper Connor MacPherson to give the North the lead within 5 seconds.
Beauly's Jack MacDonald - who was a constant threat throughout - made it two just a couple of minutes later and Glenurquhart's Kelvin MacKenzie made it 3-0 after 15 minutes.
Jack MacDonald scored his second after 20 minutes and Kingussie's Thomas Borthwick also found the net before the break.
Skye's Iain Grant was introduced at wing centre at half time and he produced a powerful performance in the second half.
Just 3 minutes after the break, Kelvin MacKenzie saw his shot saved by keeper MacPherson but Stewart Calson reacted first to net the rebound.
The North forwards were constantly rotating and this caused confusion in the South defence on several occasions. However Bearsden's Finlay MacMillan deserves mention for a determined performance in defence for the South.
The North went 7-0 up when Martin Bruce won a tussle with Gary McKerracher and his ball forward was fired into the net by Kelvin MacKenzie for his second strike of the game.
Thomas Borthwick made it 8-0 with a great individual goal which ended with him walking the ball round the keeper into the net.
Jack MacDonald completed an impressive hat-trick to make it 9-0 and sub Michael MacKenzie from Lovat made it a perfect 10 midway through the second half.
That was the end of the scoring as the North made a series of substitutions which perhaps affected the flow of the game.
Kinlochshiel's David Nixon played most of the second half and he capped a good display by setting up two of the North's goals.
Skye's Scott MacLeod was one of the North's top performers in defence and he coped admirably with everything the South attack threw at him. Beauly's Scott MacLeod and Glenurquhart's Ewen Menzies also put in good performances.
North captain Martin Bruce was presented with the Fraser MacPhee trophy by Rosemary MacPhee and he can be pleased with his performance as he continued to push the North forward from the centre line.
