The Shinty Round-up | |
21 September 2008 All the latest from Saturday 20 September 2008. Kingussie clinched the Marine National Premier Division title when they beat fierce rivals Newtonmore 3-0 at the Dell. Fraser Inglis opened the scoring after 20 minutes and Kevin Thain made it two 15 minutes later. Inglis got his second and the King’s third on the hour mark to clinch the win and the title. Kingussie were without Ronald Ross who was carrying injuries from last week’s Camanachd Cup final. This won’t erase the disappointment of losing last week’s final but Kingussie have had an impressive league season, winning all 16 matches so far. This win leaves the Fort in second place but leaves Ewen McMurdo hit a hat trick as Inveraray picked up a welcome two points as they thumped bottom club Lovat 7-2. John MacKenzie got a double for Lovat as Gary MacPherson, Ruairidh Graham, Grant Griffen and an early own goal got the remaining Inveraray goals. This result confirms Lovat’s relegation to Marine Harvest North Division 1 after one season in the top flight. Kyles won 3-1 at Mossfield, a result which sees Oban Camanachd drop to sixth in the league and they join Strathglass Lochaber, Glenurquhart and Kilmallie continue to battle it out for the Marine Harvest North Division 1 title and a place in the Marine Harvest Premier League. The Glen raced into a 3-0 lead against a weakened Skye side. However Skye were not for giving up in Ally Morrison’s last game as manager. A Somhairle MacDonald double took the score back to 3-2 and although both sides scored again, it was a nervous Glen who saw out the remaining minutes. Kilmallie didn’t have it all their own way either as the beat Caberfeidh 5-3 at Canal Parks. Goals from Trevor Jackson, John Stewart, a double from Michael Rodger, and Fraser Massie secured the win. This defeat leaves Cabers bottom of the table and deep in relegation trouble. The Glen and Kilmallie meet in the first of their double header at Drum na Drochit on Saturday 27 September 2008. In Marine Harvest North Division 2, the tie between Caberfeidh and Kinlochshiel was postponed. Leaders Newtonmore and Kingussie shared a six goal thriller at the Eilean. Ross Aitken and a Mark MacDonald double netted for More whilst the Kings’ scoring was - not for the first time this season – an all Borthwick affair. Thomas hit a double and Ryan got the other. Boleskine stay ahead in the Marine Harvest North Division 3 title race. They won 3-1 at bottom club Kincraig with goal from Sandy Fraser and a Lewis Smith double. Beauly stay a point behind, although they have played a game more, after they beat Strathglass 6-2 at Glenurquhart are still very much in the title hunt as they have games in hand and they did their cause no harm with a 5-3 win in an exciting game at Lochcarron. Glenorchy are the Marine Harvest South Division 1 champions as they beat second place Glasgow Mid Argyll 3-1. They of course also win an all important place in next season’s Marine Harvest National Premier League. Kilmory will be delighted with their 5-3 win at rivals Inveraray and Lochside Rovers had a comfortable 5-2 home win over bottom club Strachur. Tir Conaill Harps won the Valerie Fraser Camanachd Cup with a 2-1 win over Glengarry. Glengarry’s Sarah Corrigall was named player of the match. |
