Harps Edge Out Garry Girls to Win Valerie Fraser Camanachd Cup. | |
21 September 2008 Tir Conaill Harps edged out Glengarry to win the Valerie Fraser Camanachd Cup. The final took place at Ballachulish on Saturday 20 September 2008. Harps raced away into a two goal lead courtesy of a Fiona Mathie double in the first 20 minutes. Garry pulled a great goal back 10 minutes after the break when Sarah Corrigal controlled a volley from Fenella MacRae, and whipped the ball into the net. Garry continued to press but they just couldn't convert their pressure into an equalising goal. Harps held on for a 2-1 win which sparked celebrations amongst their players and supporters. Skye's Sarah Corrigal won the player of the match for her performance for Glengarry. Sarah becomes the first player to win the coveted award for the second time. The Badenoch & Strathspey ladies won the Caledonial Canal challenge Cup when they had a resounding 11 - 0 win over Strathglass.
