Kilkenny Romp To All Ireland Victory. | |
07 September 2008 Kilkenny captured their third All-Ireland title in a row with a devastating 3-30 to 1-13 annihilation of Waterford at Croke Park on Sunday 7 September 2008. Eddie Brennan grabbed two goals in as many first half minutes to set the Cats on their way, while Eoin Larkin added a third after the break to leave Waterford's All-Ireland dreams in tatters. Kilkenny were deadly accurate all afternoon, amassing a remarkable 3-30 total and firing just two wides in the process. Martin Comerford, who went off injured in the second half, was their only forward not to register a score, as their attack delivered one of the greatest ever performances seen in Croke Park. For Waterford, the euphoria that built up around Davy Fitzgerald's fairytale run to the final this year, was pricked inside 29 minutes as Kilkenny had already built up a 2-12 to 0-4 lead. The Deise managed just 1-4 from play in the entire game, and but for a late flurry from Eoin Kelly and John Mullane, there could have been further embarrassment. Full match report to follow.......
