Skye Camanachd U14 2 Fort William U14 0 | |
01 August 2008 A Chris MacLennan double ensured Skye Camanachd U14s made a great start to their North Division 1 campaign by defeating last year's winners Fort William by two goals to nil. This was a stiff test for the Skye youngsters and they responded well. John Gillies and Martin Bruce came close to scoring in the opening stages as Skye dominated the game. The break through came after 15 minutes and it was Chris MacLennan who got the all important opening goal. MacLennan doubled the lead 10 minutes later with a great turn and shot. Whenever Fort William did break forward, they found Skye full back Ian Grant in dominant form, ably assisted by Scott MacLeod. Also Ally MacLeod in the Skye goal looked confident and this spread throughout the defence. Fort William came more into the game at the start of the second half but Skye were resolute with Shaun Hedley and Thomas MacDonald clearing from defensive positions. Indeed the young Islanders had the best chance of the half when a ball into the D was handled by a Fort William defender and referee John Angus Gillies correctly awarded a penalty. Jordan Murchison's well hit penalty produced a terrific save from Fort William keeper Jack Fraser. Murchison had a great game and was influential in all Skye attacks. Skye comfortably saw out the rest of the game and their next match is a trip to play Glenurquhart.
