Social Club News

Welcome to Skye Camanachd Social Club page.

We offer a wide range of events during the year. The function room is available for hire for most events including weddings, engagements, birthdays and just about anything you would care to imagine. Just ask Martha Ross or any Committee Member for enquiries and further details.

Membership Dues

Dear Member

ANNUAL MEMBERSHIP FOR 2008/2009

It has come to that time of year when Annual Memberships for the Skye Camanachd Social Club are due.

As I’m sure you are aware, the Club has been working hard to resolve it’s well publicised debt problem, which only became fully evident at the end of last year; and has already made substantial inroads towards paying off the major creditors, and appeasing those with less extensive claims on our finances.  Following the EGM in November last year, when the full extent of the Club’s debt was accurately quantified for the first time, it was evident that a renewed fight to ensure the survival and future success of the Club had to be mounted urgently.  The majority present at the EGM, and the follow-up meeting, indicated their wish that the Club should continue, and have fully supported the committee’s efforts to turn around the fortunes of the Social Club since then.

For your information, please find attached a copy of the documents circulated at the recent AGM along with the minutes of that meeting.

The Committee have worked tirelessly over the past 6 months, to resolve the problem and the great news is that the debt has been greatly reduced, with the possibility that the balance of outstanding debt could be paid off by this time next year.  It is a fantastic turn around in such a short time.  This level of success is in no short measure also attributable to the many members and organisations who have given their time, cooking/bar keeping skills and cash to bolster the finances and social wellbeing of the Club.

It is now felt that the Club is on the way back to full health, and I would ask that you take this opportunity to renew your Annual Membership, or perhaps join for the first time.  By doing this, you will be showing your support for the Club and will be making a direct contribution towards ensuring sustained financial success.

You will have noticed over the past few months that the Club is only open when there is a game on, or a function is being held, a bingo night, a quiz night etc.  This is proving to be much more profitable for the Club. Thanks must go to all the volunteers who give up their time, free, to run these events.  If you would like to offer your help to the Club, the Committee would like to hear from you.

As long as the Club can stage at least two good functions per month, our success should continue.  The Club has a reasonably healthy programme of bookings for the coming months and this should keep the finances on target.   A concerted and sustained effort will be needed to keep this going over the, non-shinty, winter months.  The Clubhouse is a tremendous venue for a “do”. If you are planning a function, please contact Martha or Janet at the Clubhouse to make a booking or simply to find out what the Club can offer.

Enclosed is a form for you to apply for your Annual Membership.  If you have recently renewed your membership, please accept our apologies for writing to you, but perhaps the attached documents may be of interest to you in any case.  The form should be returned to the Clubhouse or to Morag Palmer – addresses on the form.

The Club look forward to hearing from you.

Yours sincerely

Committee of Skye Camanachd Social Club

Social Committee:

For information, Martha Ross is Chair, Janet MacVicar is Vice-Chair, Phil McCaherty is Secretary and Donnie Martin and Ross Cowie also sit on the committee.

Jacqui Murchison continues to provide financial information and Morag Palmer is our main contact for Membership subscriptions.

Social Club Quiz Returns

The hugely popular Social Club Quiz is back with new quiz master Dan Corrigall.

There was a practice quiz on Friday 26 September 2008 and the league proper starts at 7.30pm on Friday 10 October 2008.

There is still plenty time to put a team together - 4 members per team - and join in on all the fun.

Newsletter - 21 August 2008
Dear All,

Just a short note to advise that the Bar will be open from 5pm-8pm on Saturday 23rd August 2008.

No scheduled game for the first team and second team away to Lochaber.

QUIZ Restarts

The Winter Quiz League will recommence in September - start date to be confirmed. Watch this space.

As usual it's teams of 4 and good social evening every Friday fortnight.

As some of you may know last years terrific quiz host Carel Goodheir has decided to hang up his questions and get back to answering them in a new improved team!!

If anyone would like to put forward their services or know of anyone who would like to host the quiz evening, please let me know.

Also remember www.skyecamanachd.com.

Cheers fur the noo!!!
Phil
Newsletter - 3 July 2008
Just a quick note to advise that North Division 2 match between Skye and Kingussie is now taking place on Friday evening. Throw up at 7.30pm. Should be a good game.

This will give most supporters a chance to travel to Drumnadrochit on Saturday for the Balliemore Semi Final between Glenurquhart and Skye. We wish the team all the best in what will be a tough fixture and an exciting match.

Consequently the clubhouse will be closed this Saturday, with a private function taking place in the evening also.

Skye Camanachd Social Club is to host a Motorhome Rally for one week commencing 11th July 2008.

Up to 50 motorhomes will be located within the car park for that week and will be using some of our facilities.

This is certainly a departure from our normal income streams and we hope it is a success, however we apologise in advance for any inconvenience which may be caused to our members.

Kind regards
Phil
