Camanachd Association Chief Operating Officer Torquil MacLeod gave an end of season interview when he spoke to Cuillin FM on a range of matters on Saturday 23 December 2011.
Speaking to Saturday Sports Show presenter Drew Millar, Torquil MacLeod spoke about the rolling substitutes pilot.
MacLeod is aware that rolling substitutes had a controversial introduction but it looks as if it is here to stay. He said, “It was a painful birth perhaps but the consensus is that it has been well received and that it is something that people want retained. So we will be taking that to a general meeting in advance of next season just to have it formally approved. On the whole it seemed to work quite well.”
“For us it provides greater playing opportunities for players as substitutes now have more of a chance of getting a game rather than being held over in case there is an injury.”
“The idea for rolling subs came from team managers in the first instance and it was something people had been talking about for quite a while. So we took the initiative and introduced it as a pilot. I think any dissent was around the manner in which rolling substitutes was introduced rather than the idea itself. So we’ve learnt from that and the introduction of rolling subs seems to have been very well received.”
