03 June 2012 The Orion Premiership sides entered the Scottish Hydro Camanachd Cup and Lochaber and Skye Camanachd claimed top division scalps on Saturday 2 June 2012.
Scottish Hydro Camanachd Cup Newtonmore 7 Beauly 0 Scottish Hydro Camanachd Cup holders Newtonmore started the defence of their trophy against Beauly at the Eilan. The first half was goalless but Chris Sellar and Glen MacKintosh hit second half doubles as ‘More ran out 7-0 winners. Kinlochshiel 1 Kingussie 1 Kinlochshiel and Kingussie will have to do it all over again after a 1-1 draw at Kirkton. Throw up was delayed for an hour as Kingussie turned up without their kit and camans so they started the game in a borrowed ‘Shiel strip. However Kingussie did not forget to take Ronald Ross and he put them ahead after 7 minutes. ‘Shiel’s John MacRae made it 1-1 on 37 minutes to take the tie to a replay. Kilmallie 3 Fort William 1 Kilmallie beat local rivals Fort William 3-1 at the Canal Parks. Daniel Stewart put the Fort ahead but Kilmallie captain John Stewart, who returned after a two match ban, levelled. Second half goals from Michael Rodger and Liam MacDonald put Kilmallie through to the next round. Skye Camanachd 2 Glenurquhart 1 Skye Camanachd pulled off a shock 2-1 over Glenurquhart at Pairc nan Laoch on the 22nd anniversary of their 1990 Camanachd Cup win. Neale Reid put the visitors ahead after 33 minutes but Alan Palmer levelled for Skye a minute later. Jordan Murchison fired a rocket shot into the top corner of Stuart MacKintosh’s net a couple of minutes from the break and this proved to be the winner. The Skye defence, superbly marshaled by captain Shockie MacLennan, was excellent in the second half and the Islanders had keeper John MacLeod to thank for a brilliant save with his hand from a David Smart shot neat the death. Lochaber 4 Bute 0 Stuart Callison has been a Lochaber match-winner for the last two weekends and he came up trumps again with a hat-trick as Lochaber beat Bute 4-0 at Spean Bridge. Glasgow Mid Argyll 1 Kyles Athletic 1 Glasgow Mid Argyll earned a replay after a resolute performance against Kyles Athletic at Yoker. Robbie MacLeod gave Kyles a first half lead and GMA soaked up a lot of pressure before leveling through Andy Mathie 8 Minutes from time. Inveraray 4 Strathglass 0 Strathglass put up a good fight against Inveraray at the Winterton before going down 4-0. All the goals came in the second half with Chris Crawford scoring twice. Lovat 6 Kilmory 0 Lovat were too strong for Kilmory at Balgate. Greg Matheson and Martin Bell scored twice in a 6-0 win and if it had not been for some good saves from Kilmory keeper Ewen Carmichael, the winning margin could have been greater.
Marine Harvest North Division 1 Inverness 1 Caberfeidh 4 The only match in this division saw Inverness and Caberfeidh clash at the Bught Park. Kevin Bartlett put Cabers ahead after just 2 minutes. However Daniel Palombo levelled on 14 minutes and the sides were all square at the break. Inverness had the chance to go a goal in front a minute into the second half when they were awarded a penalty by referee Calum Duff. However Conner Golabeck was unable to convert from the spot and matters took a turn for the worse for the Capital side a minute later when Davie Glass was shown a straight red card. Stuart Krzyanowski scored twice on 70 and 75 minutes to put Cabers 3-1 ahead and Calum Morrison added a fourth just 3 minutes later to seal a 4-1 win which takes Caberfeidh to the top of the table.
Marine Harvest South Division 1 Oban Camanachd 3 Glenorchy 0 Under-strength league leaders Oban Camanachd beat second place Glenorchy 3-0 at Mossfield. Andrew MacCuish scored twice, either side of an Aidan MacIntyre goal. Oban Celtic 4 Taynuilt 3 A David Hill double helped Oban Celtic to a crucial 4-3 win over Taynuilt in Oban. The win takes Oban Celtic off the bottom of the table. Aberdour 0 Strachur 4 Brian Dickie got two as Strachur overcame Aberdour 4-0 in Fife.
Marine Harvest North Division 2 Newtonmore 4 Skye Camanachd 1 League leaders Newtonmore beat fourth place Skye Camanachd 4-1 in their noon throw up at the Eilan. Evan Menzies hit a first half hat-trick with goals on 11, 21 and 26 minutes. Mark MacDonald got a fourth a couple of minutes from the break. Newtonmore’s Scott Chisholm was red carded by referee Euan Pearson and Skye pulled a goal back 5 minutes into the second half through Iain MacLellan. Kinlochshiel 1 Aberdeen University 0 A later Ewan Falconer goal gave second place Kinlochshiel a 1-0 win over fourth place Aberdeen University at Kirkton. Fort William 4 Glengarry 0 Goals in the last half hour from Sean Cameron, Graham Campbell, Alan Knox and Peter Wood gave Fort William a 4-0 derby win over Glengarry at the Black Parks. Kingussie 2 Lovat 1 A John Gibson double gave Kingussie a 2-1 win over Lovat at the Dell. Laura Gallacher replied for the visitors. Lochaber 1 Glenurquhart 2 Martin Porter scored for Lochaber against Glenurquhart in their 4pm throw up over Lochaber at Spean Bridge. However Daniel MacKintosh and Calum Fraser were on target to give Glenurquhart the points.
Marine Harvest South Division 2 Inveraray 0 Lochside Rovers 4 Lochside got back on the winning way with a 4-0 triumph over at the Winterton. Craig MacDougall continued his good scoring run when he chipped in with a double. Glasgow Mid Argyll 4 Col Glen 0 Glasgow Mid Argyll recovered from a heavy defeat last week to beat Col Glen 4-0 in their noon throw up at Yoker. Euan Forsyth put them ahead after 15 minutes. Graham Hyatt scored a goal in each half with strikes on 35 and 65 minutes. Calum Forsyth completed the scoring when he made it 4-0 a minute from time. Ballachulish P Bute P Travel problems led to the postponement of the game between third place Ballachulish and Bute. Ardnamurchan W/O v Tayforth Second place Tayforth were unable to raise a team for their trip west to play Ardnamurchan so the points go to the home side. Kyles Athletic W/O v Aberdour Aberdour were unable to raise a team for their trip to Tighnabruaich to play Kyles Athletic so the points go to the home side.
Marine Harvest North Division 3 Lochcarron 1 Beauly 4 Beauly continued what seems like an unstoppable push towards the title with a 4-1 win over Lochcarron at Battery Park. Danny Marshall, Robbie Tuach and a Sean Stewart double counted for the visitors whilst Alan Stewart was on target for Lochcarron. Inverness 2 Boleskine 5 Boleskine came out on top with a 5-2 derby win over Inverness at the Bught Park. Iain Grant and Ewan Fraser each scored doubles. Strathglass 2 Strathspey Camanachd 4 Strathspey Camanachd extended their unbeaten run to three games when they beat Strathglass 4-2 at Cannich. Andrew Hay grabbed a hat-trick and Jonathon Gray got the other for the Speyside men. Brian MacKay scored twice for Strathglass. Lewis Camanachd 0 Kilmallie 5 A Brian MacKay hat-trick helped Kilmallie to a 5-0 win over Lewis Camanachd at Shawbost. Veteran John MacIsaac and Nick Lavin got the others. |
