30 April 2012 Kinlochshiel and Lovat closed the gap on Orion Group Premiership leaders Newtonmore following the shinty action on Saturday 28 April 2012. Co-operative MacTavish Cup – Quarter Finals Beauly 1 Glenurquhart 6 Following last week’s postponement, Glenurquhart made the short trip to Braeview Park to play Beauly. The Glen found their scoring touch, running out 6-1 winners. Neale Reid helped himself to a hat-trick, Lewis MacLennan bagged a brace and an own goal from Iain Broadhead completed their tally. Marc MacLauchlin replied for the home side. Glenurquhart now have home advantage against Newtonmore in next month’s semi-finals.
Balliemore Cup – First Round Skye Camanachd 2 Lochcarron 0 Late goals from substitutes Danny Morrison and Ally MacDonald gave Skye Camanachd a 2-0 derby victory over Lochcarron in the first round of the Balliemore Cup. The visitors had defender Ross Matheson sent off on 62 minutes for two bookable offences. Oban Camanachd 0 Strathglass 0 Aidan MacIntyre, Andrew MacCuish and Matt Rippon each got doubles as Oban Camanachd beat Strathglass 6-1 at Mossfield.
Sutherland Cup – First Round Kingussie 4 Skye Camanachd 0 Sutherland Cup holders Kingussie are through to the next round as they beat Skye Camanachd 4-0 at the Dell. Savio Genini, Scott MacIntyre and veteran Michael Clark were all on target in the first half with Clark adding another in the second half. Glenurquhart 5 Kyles Athletic 1 2011 runners up Kyles Athletic were no match for Glenurquhart at Blairbeg as the home side ran out 5-1 winners. Ross MacAulay, a Calum Fraser double, Daniel MacKintosh and Ewan Menzies got their goals with David Boyle replying for Kyles.. Glengarry 0 Fort William 2 Fort William had first half goals from John MacLeod and Michael Slezas to thank for a 2-0 win over Glengarry at Craigard. Boleskine 2 Caberfeidh 3 Craig Morrison scored twice as Caberfeidh edged out Boleskine in their all-Marine Harvest North Division 3 meeting at Farr. Lovat 4 Strathglass 0 A Lewis Tawse hat-trick helped Lovat to a 4-0 victory over Strathglass at Balgate. Jimmy MacKenzie got the other. Kilmallie 4 Ballachulish 4 We are unlikely to have heard the last of Kilmallie’s tie with Ballachulish at the Canal Parks as it was abandoned during the first period of extra time. It has been reported that referee Neil Ferguson called proceedings to a premature halt when supporters entered the field of play. A report will likely be submitted to the Camanachd Association. The match was tied 4-4 at the time with Brian MacKinnon scoring twice for Kilmallie and David MacPhee grabbing a hat-trick for Ballachulish. Newtonmore W/O v Taynuilt Newtonmore have a first round bye as Taynuilt are unable to raise a team for their meeting at the Eilan. Beauly W/O v Aberdour Beauly were awarded a walk-over as Aberdour were unable to raise a team for their meeting at Braeview Park.
Orion Group Premiership Kinlochshiel 4 Bute 2 Kinlochshiel came out on top against Bute when the Orion Group Premiership’s two newest sides met at Kirkton. Duncan “Ach” MacRae continued his good form when he put the home side ahead on 17 minutes and a Neil Fraser strike on 37 minutes gave them a 2-0 lead at the break. Robert Walker pulled a goal back 10 minutes into the second half but Fraser added his second 5 minutes later to restore ‘Shiel’s two goal advantage. Robert Walker got his second on 65 minutes but 'Shiel captain Gordie MacDonald had the final say on his return from injury when he made it 4-2 on the stroke of full time. Fort William 2 Lovat 4 Lovat came from 2-0 down to beat Fort William 4-2 at the Black Parks. Bryan Simpson and Gary Innes gave the home side the advantage but a Greg Matheson double, the second from the penalty spot, and goals from Martin Bell and Fraser Gallacher mean Lovat join Kinlochshiel just a point behind leaders Newtonmore. Inveraray 0 Kingussie 3 The match between Inveraray and Kingussie was switched to the Winterton as the Dell was unable to take two matches. Kingussie went home with both points thanks to a Ronald Ross hat-trick. Kyles Athletic 2 Kilmallie 0 Kyles Athletic beat Kilmallie 2-0 at Strachur. Ewan Campbell has proved to be a useful acquisition for Kyles since he signed from Fort William and he put them ahead on the hour mark with Rupert Williamson getting the second 10 minutes later.
Marine Harvest North Division 1 Caberfeidh 2 Lochaber 5 Lochaber went 2-0 lead ahead in their Balliemore Cup meeting with Caberfeidh at Castle Leod thanks to goals from Zandz Ferguson and Scott Patterson However a Kevin Bartlett double restored parity. Lochaber’s Ben Delaney proved to be the match winner with a hat-trick in the last half hour, with one of his goals coming from the penalty spot. The win extends Lochaber’s lead at the top of the table.
Marine Harvest South Division 1 Glasgow Mid Argyll 3 Strachur 1 Early goals from Andy Mathie and Mark Bain put second top Glasgow Mid Argyll on the way to a win over second bottom Strachur at Yoker. Craig Anderson got the other in the second half. Aberdour 1 Taynuilt 2 Goals from Stuart Scott and Willie Neilson gave Taynuilt a 2-1 win at Aberdour. Kilmory 6 Oban Celtic 2 Kilmory were 6-2 winners at home to Oban Celtic. Ian Robertson and Alex Cunningham each scored twice.

Evan Menzies and Connor Jones each scored twice. Lochaber 3 Aberdeen University 3 Lochaber drew 3-3 with Aberdeen University at Spean Bridge. Martin Porter, Keith Neville and Duncan MacKinnon counted for the home side whilst Calum Edmonds twice and Kenny MacLeod were on target for the visitors. Both sides now have six points although the Students have a game in hand.
