22 April 2012 Co-operative MacTavish Cup holders Kingussie are through to the semi-finals but AGJ Parcels Glasgow Celtic Society Cup holders Kyles Athletic and out of this year’s competition following the shinty results on Saturday 21 April 2012.
Co-operative MacTavish Cup – Quarter Finals Fort William 1 Newtonmore 2 A Paul MacArthur goal 3 minutes from the end of extra time gave Newtonmore a 2-1 win in an incident-packed clash with Fort William at Craigard, Invergarry. After a scoreless first half, Newtonmore forward Glen MacKintosh was red-carded by referee Billy Wotherspoon. Despite being a man down, ‘More took the lead when Danny MacRae fired home 15 minutes from time. That goal looked to be enough to secure a semi-final spot until Fort’s Duncan Rodger struck just 3 minutes from time to take the tie to an extra half hour. Paul MacArthur’s winner sealed a last four spot against Beauly or Glenurquhart. Skye Camanachd 0 Lochaber 4 A powerful second half performance gave Lochaber a 4-0 win over Skye Camanachd in Portree. Ben Delaney swept home the opening goal on 58 minutes when he got onto the end of a cross from the right from substitute Scott Patterson. Shaun Nicolson added a second 3 minutes later. Late strikes from Scott Patterson and Zandz Ferguson earned the Spean Bridge side a semi-final clash with Kingussie. Kilmallie 1 Kingussie 3 Kingussie ran out 3-1 winners against Kilmallie at the Canal Parks. Martin Dallas and Ryan Stewart exchanged first half goals to leave the sides level at the break. Fraser Munro fired home 3 minutes into the second half and Ronald Ross made it 3-1 just 12 minutes from time to put the holders through to the last four. Beauly P Glenurquhart P An unplayable Braeview Park pitch led to the postponement of the tie between Beauly and Glenurquhart. The sides will try again next week.
AJG Parcels Glasgow Celtic Society Cup - Quarter Finals Inveraray 1 Kyles Athletic 0 The match of the day in the AJG Parcels Glasgow Celtic Society Cup quarter finals was the clash between Inveraray and holders Kyles Athletic at the Winterton. A Euan MacMurdo goal on the hour mark was all that separated the sides as Inveraray continue to be a bogey team for the Tighnabruaich men. Bute 3 Oban Camanachd 1 A first half Malcolm Clark goal gave Oban Camanachd the advantage against Bute on Rothesay. However Bute talisman Hector Whitelaw was on target 11 minutes from time to take the tie into extra-time. Whitelaw struck twice more in the last half hour to take Bute through to a semi-final meeting with Inveraray. Kilmory 1 Aberdour 1 A late Cameron MacCue goal took the tie between Kilmory and Aberdour into extra time. Hal Jones had put Kilmory ahead on 25 minutes but MacCue’s crucial strike took the game into an extra half hour period where there was no further scoring. Aberdour eventually ran out 2-1 winners on penalties. Taynuilt 3 Oban Celtic 2 Both Taynuilt and Oban Celtic are languishing at the wrong end of Marine Harvest South Division but they served up an exciting cup tie with the home side eventually running out 3-2 winners. Willie Gillies put Taynuilt ahead after 20 minutes but an Alan MacInnes strike 10 minutes before the break squared the tie. Stuart Scott scored a crucial double for Taynuilt on 51 and 69 minutes and although Gary McKerracher pulled a goal back a couple of minutes later, Taynuilt held on and they will meet Aberdour in the semi-finals.
Sutherland Cup – First Round SCOTS Camanachd 1 Caberfeidh 2 SCOTS Camanachd made their first appearance of the season when they lost out to Caberfeidh at Musselburgh in the first round of the Sutherland Cup. This was the start of a busy week for the forces side as they play Strathglass in mid-week in memory of former player Scott Bain and they then take on the Irish Armed Forces in a Shinty / Hurling clash at the Bught Park next Saturday. Alan Ross and Colin MacLennan exchanged goals to take the tie into extra-time and Jordi Gorski got the all-important goal to take Cabers into the next round.
Strathdearn Cup – First Round Skye Camanachd 3 Newtonmore 2 Skye Camanachd put holders Newtonmore out of the Strathdearn Cup with a thrilling 3-2 victory at Pairc nan Laoch, Portree. Iain MacLellan got the Islanders off to a great start with a goal in the opening minute but it was Newtonmore who led at the break through strikes from Drew MacDonald and Evan MacRae. Skye started the second half well and a controlled Will Cowie shot made it two each just a couple of minutes into the second period, The tie remained level until 10 minutes from time when Skye wing centre Chris MacLennan made a lung-bursting run from the middle of the park and played a one-two with John Angus MacInnes before slotting the ball home to score a goal fit to win any cup tie. Newtonmore’s chances of regaining parity took a blow when defender Brett Munro was sent off in the closing minutes for a second yellow card. David Campbell was also red carded in the final minute for a crude challenge of Skye’s Angie MacPherson as the youngster looked set to score a fourth goal.
Orion Group Premiership Kinlochshiel 3 Lovat 4 Kinlochshiel and Lovat met for the second consecutive Saturday and it was Lovat who returned from Kirkton with both points following a 3-2 win. Ryan Ferguson and Greg Matheson gave Lovat and early lead and although Duncan “Ach” MacRae pulled a goal back on 39 minutes, Matheson got his second four minutes from the break. Greg Matheson went on to complete his hat-trick on 69 minutes to make it 4-1. Late goals from Keith MacRae and another from Duncan “Ach” MacRae reduced the deficit to a single goal but Lovat took both points.
Marine Harvest North Division 1 Strathglass 1 Caberfeidh 3 Caberfeidh climbed off the bottom of the table with a 3-1 win over Strathglass at Cannich. Stewart Kryzanowski and Kevin Bartlett scored two in a couple of first half minutes and Martin MacDonald netted 4 minutes into the second period. Lochcarron 1 Inverness 4 All the goals came in the second half as Inverness beat Lochcarron 4-1 at Battery Park. Conor Golabeck, Charles MacDonald, James Cameron and Stevie Munro counted for the Capital side whilst Gregor Cushnie countered for the visitors.
Marine Harvest South Division 1 Glenorchy 1 Glasgow Mid Argyll 2 John Surtain returned from injury to give Glenorchy a first half lead against Glasgow Mid Argyll at Mart Park. However second half strikes from Craig Anderson and Mark Bain gave GMA the points.
Marine Harvest North Division 2 Lochaber 5 Kinlochshiel 4 Keith Neville scored twice as Lochaber beat Kinlochshiel by the odd goal in nine at Spean Bridge. Lovat 3 Fort William 2 Lovat beat Fort William 3-2 at Balgate. James MacPherson, Jimmy MacKenzie and Rory Campbell were on target in the first half for the home side and although Jack Fraser scored a second half double for the Fort, they were unable to get back on level terms. Glenurquhart P Kingussie P Poor weather conditions led to the half time abandonment of the game between Glenurquhart and Kingussie at Blairbeg. Aberdeen University P Glengarry P The match between Aberdeen University and Glengarry was postponed because of an unplayable field.
Marine Harvest South Division 2 Lochside Rovers 9 Glasgow Mid Argyll 0 League leaders Lochside Rovers were too strong for second bottom Glasgow Mid Argyll in Oban. Daniel MacKinnon and Brian MacCallum each scored hat-tricks in a 9-0 triumph. Col Glen 1 Ardnamurchan 0 An Iain MacKellar strike was enough to give Col Glen the points at home to Ardnamurchan.
Aberdour 4 Ballachulish 5 Bottom side Aberdour put up a great fight before going down 5-4 at home to Ballachulish. Duncan MacDonald helped himself to a hat-trick for the visitors. Bute 5 Inveraray 0 A Tam MacMillan hat-trick helped Bute to a 3-0 derby win over Inveraray on Rothesay. Tayforth W/O v Kyles Athletic Second place Kyles Athletic were unable to raise a team for their trip to play Tayforth so the points go to the home team.
Marine Harvest North Division 3 Kilmallie 2 Lochbroom 2 Fourth place Kilmallie shared the points with third place Lochbroom at the Canal Parks. Ross Manson scored twice to give Kilmallie an early lead but goals from Lorne Hughes and James Rolfe earned Lochbroom a point. Lochcarron 3 Lewis Camanachd 0 Gregor Cushnie scored twice and Sean MacCuish got the other as Lochcarron beat Lewis Camanachd 3-0 in their 1pm throw up at Battery Park. Inverness 3 Strathspey Camanachd 2 Inverness came out on top by the odd goal in five when the bottom two sides meet at the Bught Park. Player / manager Laurence Bellini scored the only goal of the first half to give Strathspey Camanachd a half time lead. However Michael Price, George MacInnes and Connor MacIntyre put the home side 3-1 in front. Graeme Shaw reduced the deficit 4 minutes from time but Inverness saw out the remainder of the game to secure their first league win of the season. Boleskine P Beauly P The match of the day in this division was to be the clash at Farr between second place Boleskine and table toppers Beauly. However an unplayable field let to the match being postponed. |
