20 May 2012 The Co-operative MacTavish Cup and AGJ Parcels Glasgow Celtic Society Cup reached the semi-finals stage on Saturday 19 May 2012.
Co-operative MacTavish Cup – Semi Finals Lochaber 2 Kingussie 1 Holders Kingussie were knocked out of this year’s competition following a dramatic ending to their quarter final tie with Lochaber at Spean Bridge. The tie was goalless until 4 minutes from time when referee Graham Irving awarded Lochaber a penalty when Shaun Nicolson was impeded inside the D. Shaun Nicolson picked himself up and he was given the responsibility from the spot and he produced a great strike to beat Andrew Borthwick in the Kings goal. Stuart Callison produced strike fit to win any tie to make it 2-0 on 90 minutes and although Ronald Ross pulled a goal back in stoppage time, it is Lochaber who are through to the final at the Bught Park, Inverness on 16 June 2012. Glenurquhart 2 Newtonmore 2 (after extra time – Newtonmore won 2-0 on penalties) There was also drama at Blairbeg where Glenurquhart met last year’s beaten finalists Newtonmore. Fraser Heath continued his good scoring run when he put the Glen ahead on 18 minutes but two strikes before the break from Glen MacKintosh and Jamie Robinson put ‘More 2-1 up. Billy Urquhart levelled matters on 59 minutes and with no further scoring; the tie went to an extra-time period. Neither team was able to get a crucial third goal so the tie went to penalties. Steven MacDonald and captain John MacKenzie scored from the spot to take ‘More through to the final.
AJG Parcels Glasgow Celtic Society Cup – Semi Finals Bute 3 Inveraray 6 Inveraray beat Bute 6-3 in their derby clash at the Meadows. Chris Crawford and Garry MacPherson both scored a goal in each half and the win makes Inveraray hot favourites to lift the trophy in next month’s final. Aberdour 1 Taynuilt 4 Taynuilt came from a goal down to beat Aberdour 4-1 in Fife. Willie Neilson, Michael MacQueen, Mark Beaton and Stuart Scott got the goals.
Balliemore Cup - First Round Beauly 3 Glenorchy 2 (after extra-time) The final Balliemore Cup first round tie saw Beauly throw away a two goal lead before beating Glenorchy 3-2 after extra-time at Braeview Park. Goals from Jack MacDonald and Ross Forbes put Beauly in front but late strikes from James Livingston and John MacNulty took the tie to extra-time. Marc McLachlan got the winner 3 minutes from the dreaded penalty shoot-out.
Balliemore Cup – Quarter Finals Strachur 1 Kilmory 3 Kilmory are through to the Balliemore Cup semi-finals after an Alex Cunningham double helped them to 3-1 win at Strachur.
Sutherland Cup – Quarter Final Newtonmore 2 Caberfeidh 1 An Evan Menzies brace gave Newtonmore a 2-1 win over Caberfeidh to the Eilan. The winner came just 5 minutes from time. Lovat 1 Fort William 3 Two first half goals from Jack Fraser, one coming from the penalty spot, helped Fort William to a 3-1 win over Lovat at Balgate. Beauly 0 Glenurquhart 5 Marine Harvest North Division 3 side Beauly went down 5-0 to Glenurquhart from Marine Harvest North Division 2 at Braeview Park. Jack Hosie got a hat-trick for the visitors and all the goals came in the first half.
Orion Group Premiership Kinlochshiel 3 Kilmallie 0 Kinlochshiel stay second after beating Kilmallie 3-0 at Kirkton. The sides met a couple of weeks ago at the Canal Parks when Kilmallie secured their first win of the season. However this was ‘Shiel’s day as Duncan “Ach” Macrae scored either side of half time and Finlay MacRae got a late third. Kyles Athletic 2 Fort William 1 Kyles Athletic were back on their Tighnabruaich pitch for the first time this season where a Robbie MacLeod goal 4 minutes from time gave them a 2-1 win over Fort William. David Zavaroni had put Kyles ahead 3 minutes before the break but Gary Innes squared the game on the hour from the penalty spot. Kyles stay third, behind Kinlochshiel on goal difference but with a game in hand.
Marine Harvest North Division 1 Inverness 0 Skye Camanachd 2 Two late Iain Nicolson goals gave Skye Camanachd a 2-0 win over Inverness at the Bught Park. With Lochaber in cup action, the win takes the Islanders to the top of Marine Harvest North Division 1. Caberfeidh 6 Strathglass 3 Caberfeidh followed up last week’s 4-0 win at Beauly with a 6-2 triumph over Strathglass at Castle Leod. Martin MacDonald scored once, Stewart Kryzanowski scored twice and Kevin Bartlett grabbed a hat-trick. Caberfeidh go third in the table.
Marine Harvest South Division 1 Oban Celtic 0 Oban Camanachd 4 Mossfield was the venue for the first Oban derby of the season between Oban Celtic and Oban Camanachd. Matt Rippon put Oban Camanachd ahead on 5 minutes and Malcolm Clark made it 2-0 on 25 minutes. Iain MacMillan made it 3-0 just 5 minutes into the second half whilst Malcolm Clark got his second on 79 minutes to make it 4-0. However the win came at a price for Oban Camanachd as they had Alan MacGregor and Craig MacMillan sent off by referee Robert Baxter.
Marine Harvest North Division 2 Skye Camanachd 4 Glengarry 0 Second place Skye Camanachd beat Glengarry 4-0 at Pairc nan Laoch, Portree. Will Cowie, Paul MacKinnon and Iain MacLellan all scored within the first 8 minutes to put Skye 3-0 ahead. Will Cowie got his second on 77 minutes. Injury, suspension and work commitments meant Glengarry travelled with only eleven players and it’s to their credit that they fulfilled the fixture rather than conceding the points. Kinlochshiel 2 Kingussie 0 Goals from Steven Isles and Sandy MacDiarmid gave Kinlochshiel a 2-0 win over Kingussie at Kirkton. Aberdeen University 8 Lochaber 2 Jamie Bell was the day’s top scorer with five goals as Aberdeen University were 8-2 winners over Lochaber in the Granite City.
Marine Harvest South Division 2 Ardnamurchan 2 Lochside Rovers 7 Runaway leaders Lochside Rovers maintained their 100% record with a 7-2 win at Ardnamurchan. Brian McCallum continued his good scoring run with a hat-trick. Glasgow Mid Argyll 3 Kyles Athletic 1 Craig Anderson scored a goal in each half as Glasgow Mid Argyll beat Kyles Athletic 3-1 at Yoker. Inveraray W/O v Tayforth Inveraray were to meet Tayforth at Tighnabruaich. However the visitors, who are in second place in the table, are unable to raise a team so the points go to Inveraray. Bute W/O v Aberdour The match between Bute and Aberdour at the Meadows was off as the visitors are unable to raise a team. Bute have been awarded the points.
Marine Harvest North Division 3 Lewis Camanachd 1 Strathspey Camanachd 2 The leagues newest teams met in Shawbost where Lewis Camanachd hosted Strathspey Camanachd. The visitors returned across the Minch with the points after claiming their first win in senior shinty. JJ Gray put Strathspey ahead on 25 minutes and player / manager Laurence Bellini added a second a couple of minutes into the second half. Former Skye Camanachd player Stuart Campbell pulled a goal back for Lewis 5 minutes from time but Strathspey held on to take the points with a 2-1 victory. Lochcarron 4 Boleskine 3 Gregor Cushnie was amongst the goals again as his brace helped Lochcarron to a good 4-3 win over second place Boleskine at Battery Park. Strathglass 3 Inverness 1 Strathglass and Inverness met for the second time in three weeks and a Calum MacIntyre double helped the home side to the points. Lochbroom W/O v Kilmallie Fourth place Kilmallie were unable to field for the second time in three weeks so the points went to third place Lochbroom. |
