13 May 2012 There was plenty of cup action with Artemis Macaulay Cup, Strathdearn Cup and Bullough Cup ties all taking place on Saturday 12 May 2012.
Artemis Macaulay Cup – First Round Inveraray 2 Kyles Athletic 1 Artemis Macaulay Cup holders Kyles Athletic are out of this year’s competition following their 2-1 defeat to their bogey side Inveraray at the Winterton. Inveraray’s Gary MacPherson scored the only goal of the first half on 20 minutes but Ewan Campbell levelled 20 minutes from time. Chris Crawford got the winner in the final minute to give Inveraray their second win over Kyles this season. Kinlochshiel 2 Newtonmore 1 Last year’s runners up Newtonmore are also out as they went down 2-1 to Kinlochshiel at Kirkton. Keith MacRae shot through a ruck of players to score the only goal of the first half 6 minutes from the break. Youngster Calum Stewart levelled the game but Newtonmore had Chris Sellar sent off 10 minutes from time. ‘Shiel took advantage of the extra man and John MacRae got what proved to be the winner in the final minute. Glenorchy 0 Oban Camanachd 1 A Scott MacMillan penalty just 6 minutes from time gave Oban Camanachd a 1-0 win over Glenorchy at Mart Park, Dalmally. Taynuilt 1 Glasgow Mid Argyll 2 Goals from Mark Bain and Craig Anderson gave Glasgow Mid Argyll a 2-1 victory at Taynuilt. Oban Celtic 2 Bute 5 Oban Celtic put up a good fight before going down 5-2 to Bute at Mossfield. Roberto Zavaroni scored twice for the Islanders including a penalty. Lochaber 4 Kingussie 6 There were goals galore at Spean Bridge as Kingussie came from 2-0 down to beat on-form Lochaber 6-4. Ben Delaney scored twice for the home side and Ronald Ross grabbed a hat-trick for the visitors. The teams also meet at the same venue in the Co-operative Cup semi-finals next weekend. Lovat 3 Fort William 4 Fort William edged out Lovat in a seven goal thriller at Balgate. Lewis Tawse put Lovat ahead on 17 minutes but Bryan Simpson made it 1-1 on 24 minutes. Owen Ferguson restored Lovat’s advantage 3 minutes later but a Gordie MacDonald double on 42 and 45 minute meant the Fort led at the break. Ryan Campbell was on target to extend Fort William’s lead to 4-2 on 51 minutes and although Owen Ferguson pulled a goal back a minute from time, the visitors go through to the next round. Glenurquhart 4 Kilmallie 1 Fraser Heath scored twice for the second successive Saturday as Glenurquhart beat Kilmallie 4-1 at Blairbeg.
Strathdearn Cup – Second Round Skye Camanachd 3 Kingussie 0 Skye Camanachd put holders Newtonmore out of the Strathdearn Cup in the first round of the competition and they now beat Sutherland Cup holders Kingussie 3-0 at Pairc nan Laoch, Portree in the second round of the competition. Will Cowie scored a second half double for the Islanders whilst substitute John MacKenzie got the other. Kinlochshiel 4 Glengarry 0 Doubles from Steven Fraser and Jordan Fraser gave Kinlochshiel a 4-0 win in an explosive tie with Glengarry at Kirkton. Four players were red carded by referee John MacLeod; Scott Kennedy and Colin MacDiarmid for ‘Shiel and Michael Brady and Ewan Brady for ‘Garry. Glenurquhart 9 Strathglass 0 Glenurquhart were too strong for Strathglass in their derby meeting at Blairbeg. Iain MacLeod, Daniel MacKintosh and Ewan Menzies each got doubles. Lovat 5 Aberdeen University 3 An early goal-burst at Balgate saw Lovat and Aberdeen University level at three goals each after just 28 minutes. However second half goals from Jimmy MacKenzie and Darren Urquhart put Lovat through and they travel to Portree to face Skye Camanachd in the next round. Beauly 5 Lochaber 3 A Martin Davidson hat-trick helped Marine Harvest North Division 3 leaders Beauly to a 5-3 win over Marine Harvest North Division 2 side Lochaber at Braeview Park. Lochbroom 1 Fort William 7 Marine Harvest North Division 3 side Lochbroom went down 7-1 to Fort William, who are bottom of Marine Harvest North Division 2, in Ullapool. Neil Clark got a hat-trick and Alan Knox got two for the visitors. Lochcarron 4 Kilmallie 5 There was an exciting all-Marine Harvest North Division 3 meeting between Lochcarron and Kilmallie at Battery Park. Doubles from Seb MacMillan and Grant MacKenzie put Kilmallie into a 4-1 lead over Lochcarron. However a Gregor Cushnie treble and an Iain Cameron goal squared the tie at 4-4. Grant MacKenzie went on to complete his hat-trick when he netted the winner for Kilmallie just 5 minutes from time. Boleskine 4 Inverness 1 It took extra-time to separate Boleskine and Inverness in their derby clash at Farr. Goals from Boleskine’s Annie Butterworth and Michael Price took the game into a final 30 minute period. Strikes from Iain Grant, Lewis Smith and Raymond Robertson took Boleskine through.
Bullough Cup – First Round Inveraray 4 Kyles Athletic 1 Inveraray also won the second team meeting between themselves and Kyles Athletic at the Winterton. Derek Robertson bagged a hat-trick in the 4-1 win. Tayforth 3 Col Glen 2 Tayforth had home advantage against Col Glen and they ran out 3-2 winners. Davie Arnott scored twice and Andy Scott got the other for the home side with Fraser Byrne and Steven MacKellar replying for Col Glen. Bute 3 Aberdour 0 John MacIntyre, Ally Carmichael and Tom MacMillan were all on target as Bute beat Aberdour 3-0 at the Meadows.
Marine Harvest North Division 1 Beauly 0 Caberfeidh 4 Stewart Kryzanowski put Caberfeidh ahead 4 minutes from the break against Beauly at Braeview Park. Scott MacPhail and Martin MacDonald extended Cabers’ lead before Stewart Kryzanowski added his second 8 minutes from time to give the Castle Leod side both points from a 4-0 win. Lochcarron 0 Skye Camanachd 3 Lochcarron and Skye Camanachd met for the second time in three weeks, this time in league action at Battery Park. Skye edged out their earlier Balliemore Cup meeting and they also came out on top in this one. Neil MacVicar scored the only goal of the first half whilst Ally MacDonald scored twice in the second half. Inverness 7 Strathglass 0 Inverness beat Strathglass 7-0 at the Bught Park. A Somhairle MacDonald hat-trick and doubles from Conor Golabeck and David Wylde counted for the Capital side.
Marine Harvest South Division 1 Strachur 2 Kilmory 0 Strachur moved off the bottom of the table with a 2-0 win over Kilmory. Rhys Campbell got both their goals.
Marine Harvest South Division 2 Lochside Rovers 3 Ardnamurchan 1 Lochside Rovers scored three second half goals to beat Ardnamurchan 3-1 in Oban. Connor Howe, Craig MacDougall and Brian MacCallum were all on target. Ballachulish W/O v Glasgow Mid Argyll This match between Ballachulish and Glasgow Mid Argyll was to take place at the Black Parks, Fort William as Ballachulish’s Jubilee Park pitch is not yet ready for use. However the Ballachulish have been awarded the points as Glasgow Mid Argyll are unable to raise a team.
Marine Harvest North Division 3 Strathspey Camanachd 3 Caberfeidh 6 Caberfeidh beat Strathspey 6-3 at Freuchie. Jodi Gorski and Blair Morrison grabbed a brace each for the visitors. |
