Strathglass 0 Skye Camanachd 2 | |
02 April 2012 Skye Camanachd beat Strathglass 2-0 in their Co-operative MacTavish Cup first round tie at Cannich on Saturday 31 March 2012. Skye Camanachd manager Willie MacRae was without the services of Neil MacVicar, Iain Murray and the injured Iain Morrison. Iain Nicolson dropped back from the forward line into defence with Danny Morrison starting in attack where he was joined by Ally MacDonald. Allan MacKinnon started at full centre. There were places on the bench for Ally MacLeod, John Angus MacInnes and John MacKenzie. Strathglass boss Robert Geddes was without full back Donald Fraser and George Phimmister took over that role. Darren Reid started at full centre in place of Michael Stokes. The injured Laurence Jones was another absentee. Skye enjoyed most of the first half pressure. The visiting forwards moved the ball about well and produced some lovely build up play. However they seemed very shy too shoot although they did force home keeper Stevie MacLauchlin into a few good saves. The Skye centre line was particularly effective and Allan MacKinnon reveled in the full centre role with Shaun Hedley the stand-out player on the park. Skye’s failure in front of goal took up most of Willie MacRae’s half time team talk. Matters were rectified 60 seconds into the second half when Jordan Murchison netted to put Skye in front. The ball broke to Danny Morrison on the right and his low shot was saved by keeper Stevie MacLauchlin. However Jordan Murchison ran in and flicked the rebound into the net. Danny Morrison made it 2-0 just 10 minutes later when he collected the ball on the right and beat his marker before firing a low backhand shot into the net from 15 yards. It was mostly Skye pressure for the remainder of the game. Danny Morrison saw a shot come off the crossbar and Stevie MacLauchlin brilliantly tipped a 35 yard rocket shot from Gilleasbuig MacDonald over the bar. Ally MacLeod came on in attack in place of Ally MacDonald and he was unlucky not to score. John Angus MacInnes replaced Iain Nicolson late in the game as the Skye defender had to rush off to work. Best for Strathglass were George Phimmister who had a very good game at the back and keeper Stevie MacLauchlin who made some super saves. The Skye defence was solid and Shaun Hedley put in a man of the match performance.
