Skye Camanachd Manager Willie MacRae Pleased To See The Goals Go In. | |
07 May 2012 Skye Camanachd manager Willie MacRae was pleased to see the goals go in as his side beat Caberfeidh 5-2 in their Scottish Hydro Camanachd Cup first round tie at Pairc nan Laoch, Portree on Saturday 5 May 2012. Speaking to Cuillin FM’s Camanachd Corner after the game, MacRae said, “All the boys up front played really well and they moved the ball about and if it hadn’t been for some good saves by Cabers keeper Archie Ritchie, we would have scored a few more goals. We got a good first goal and their goal was against the run of play. Fair play to Cabers though, they were quick out of the blocks at the start of the second half and they got their noses if front. However our boys didn’t let their heads drop and then the goals kept coming and we played some nice shinty.” MacRae has called for more goals in recent weeks and he is sure this win was the tonic his side need. “The goals will give the forwards confidence. We have had clean sheets this season but if we can add goals to that then it’s all good for the team MacRae gave special mention to make-shift forward Neil MacVicar. “Neil was struggling with a foot injury and we didn’t think he would make it at all today. So we started with him up front to see how he got on and he seemed to like that idea and we now know why! As well as Neil, it was good for Danny and Jordan’s confidence to get their goals and although Ally didn’t score, he was involved in a lot of good lead up play and he was very good today. They all seemed to have a good understanding together.” Debutant Chris Rose was also singled out. “Chris Rose came in at full centre for his first game and he looked a natural. He was excellent and you can tell that he thinks about the game. Iain Morrison and Darryl Macintosh were also solid. We had to alter the defence and Allan MacKinnon was great at buck shee back. He was a bit nervous about playing there as he had not played there before but he had the old head in Allan MacLeod beside him. Stevie was solid at the back and Shockie had a very good second half. The second tackles were coming in which is what we are after. If someone missed a tackle there was always someone else following in and we needed that today. We had five players missing today, guys who would have been first picks, so that is a good sign for the strength of our pool.” Looking ahead to next week’s game against Lochcarron, the Skye boss said, “We had a stuffy game against them last week so that will be another hard one but we’ll go into that game with confidence after this result.” |
