Skye Camanachd 4 Strathglass 1 | |
19 March 2012 Skye Camanachd beat Strathglass 4-1 in their Marine Harvest North Division 1 meeting at Pairc nan Laoch, Portree on Saturday 17 March 2012. Skye boss Willie MacRae made four additions to his squad as he had to do without Danny Morrison who had a hand injury, Iain Nicolson who was unable to play because of work commitments and Andrew Banks. However Iain Murray returned to the squad and he was on the substitutes bench along with John Angus MacInnes. There were starting places for Paul MacKinnon and Alan Palmer. Strathglass boss Robert Geddes was without several players and the visitors did not bring any substitutes with them. Skye had the better of the early exchanges with a Jordan Murchison shot flashing across goal and Iain Morrison spurning a good chance when he slammed the ball into the side-netting. Despite this early pressure, it was Strathglass who took the lead on 9 minutes when Robert Geddes was allowed to dribble the ball through the Skye defence and the veteran forward scrambled the ball over the line. The home side went close to leveling on 20 minutes when Alan Palmer won the ball on the left and sent a shot fizzing across the face of goal. However Skye did equalise on 32 minutes. Jordan Murchison’s shot was deflected into the air and Alan Palmer reacted first to knock the ball into the net. A snap-shot from Gilleasbuig MacDonald went just past the post on 35 minutes. Skye’s Paul MacKinnon was in the wars on 41 minutes when a swinging caman caught him above the eye and the gash required stitches. Iain Murray came on in MacKinnon’s place. Shaun Hedley sent a shot just over in the fourth minute of first half stoppage time. Iain Murray played in Gilleasbuig MacDonald but his shot was deflected for a corner on 52 minutes. Iain Morrison had an attempt on goal on 56 minutes and the ball fell to Gilleasbuig MacDonald who tucked the ball past Rhuaraidh MacKay to put Skye 2-1 in front. Just a minute later, Aonghas MacDonald had to look lively to foil Robert Geddes at the expense of a corner. Rhuaraidh MacKay chested away a dipping ball into the D from Darryl Macintosh on 63 minutes Robert Geddes set a shot just wide of target a couple of minutes later. Skye extended their lead on 70 minutes. Shaun Hedley played the ball goalwards and visiting keeper Rhuaraidh MacKay seemed to think the ball was goal wide but it rebounded off his right post and Jordon Murchison pounced on the rebound and he put the ball into the back of the net. Skye boss Willie MacRae introduced Ally MacDonald in place of Alan Palmer on 73 minutes. Gilleasbuig MacDonald shaved the post with a blistering drive on 77 minutes. Jordan Murchison played a one-two with Iain Morrison on 79 minutes before firing the ball low into the net to make it 4-1. Darryl Macintosh took a knock to the ankle on 82 minutes and he was replaced by John Angus MacInnes who made his first team debut. A good challenge from Steven Morrison stopped Robert Geddes in his tracks on 88 minutes. Best for Skye were forwards Jordan Murchison and Iain Morrison. Donald Fraser was a rock at the back for Strathglass and Robert Geddes was always a threat in attack.
