06 July 2012 The Skye Camanachd Ladies beat Lovat Ladies 9-1 at Pairc nan Laoch, Portree on Saturday 30 June 2012. Skye played with the wind in the first half and they attacked from the throw up with Lorna MacRae twice going close as did her strike partner Jenna Beaton. Lovat were restricted to breakaways and Skye keeper Ilana Paterson saved well from Ruth Campbell in one such attack. However it was Lovat who took the lead on 15 minutes. Ruth Campbell collected the ball on the left and her cross found visiting captain Holly Cameron who remained cool and slotted the ball home to make it 1-0. Jenna Beaton set up Lorna MacRae on 19 minutes but Tina Marshall saved well with her feet and cleared. However Skye quickly regained possession and Lorna MacRae crossed for Jenna Beaton to thump the ball into the roof of the net to make it 1-1. Ilana Paterson sprinted off her line to deny Holly Cameron after 22 minutes. Skye took the lead on 24 minutes when Lorna MacRae came deep to gain possession and she played the ball forward to Jenna Beaton. Beaton ran wide before crossing and Lorna MacRae chested the ball down but Tina Marshall made a super save from her shot. However Lovat were unable to clear the ball and Lorna MacRae fired it into the net to give the home side a 2-1 lead. A minute later, Caitlin MacLean played the ball to Lorna Macrae who showed good pace before shooting wide. Anna MacDonald and Caitlin MacLean both halted Lovat attacks moments after. Skye extended their lead on 31 minutes when Jenna Beaton got on the end of a long ball from Lorna MacRae after Marie MacKinnon had won possession in midfield. Beaton out-paced the Lovat defence before shooting home to put Skye 3-1 up at the break. Skye made a change in goal at the break with Ilana Paterson and Marie MacKinnon swapping positions. Marie MacKinnon made a good save from Hannah Eaton 7 minutes into the second half. Holli Dickson made a good challenge to foil Jenna Beaton on 45 minutes and the rebound fell to Lorna MacRae but Tina Marshall stopped her effort with her foot before scrambling the ball away. Skye put the game beyond Lovat with five goals in a devastating seven minute spell. Lorna MacRae got her second 12 minutes into the second half when she collected a clearance from the Lovat defence and slotted the ball home. Just 60 seconds later it was 5-1 as Jenna Beaton collected a pass from Lorna MacRae and went on a run before stroking the ball into the net to complete her hat-trick. Skye went 6-1 up on the hour mark when Jenna Beaton beat her marked and tucked the ball into the corner of the net with Lorna MacRae again the provider. There were some good goals throughout the afternoon pick of the bunch was Skye’s seventh goal which came 17 minutes into the second half. Lorna MacRae collected an Anna MacDonald pass and played a long ball to Jenna Beaton. The ball took one bounce and Beaton smashed it on the half volley into the roof of the net for her fifth goal of the game which made it 7-1. Seconds later it was 8-1 as Jenna Beaton ran onto a Caitlin MacLean pass and fired the ball home for her double hat-trick. Lorna MacRae completed her hat-trick when she ran onto a super ball from Skye substitute Sophie Tinney and she fired the ball over Tina Marshall’s shoulder to make it 9-1 with 23 second half minutes played. Lovat continued to fight for every ball for the remainder of the game but they found Anna MacDonald and Caitlin MacLean in the Skye defence determined not to let them past. Lovat were well served by Fiona Urquhart and Ruth Campbell. Whilst scorers Beaton and MacRae caught the eye for Skye, it would be unfair to single out any players in what was a fine team performance.
