Skye Camanachd 3 Fort William 1 | |
07 August 2012 The Skye Camanachd second team had a 3-1 Marine Harvest North Division 2 win over Fort William at Pairc nan Laoch, Portree on Saturday 4 August 2012. Skye manager Murdo Morrison named a 15 man squad for the 3.30pm throw up. Michael Nicolson made a welcome return in goal in place of Iain Munro who was off to work at the Olympics. There are four changes from the squad which beat Aberdeen University last week as Jamie Gannon and Jordan Murchison are on first team duty and Paul MacKinnon and Alan Palmer are unavailable. Jack Latton is injured. Michael Nicolson, Allan MacLeod and Angie Grant come into the squad. The visitors were short of players including Michael Slezas, Cameron Grant and Scott Knox. Indeed they travelled with just one substitute – namely player / manager Victor Smith. Skye played into the wind in the first half but they made a good start to the game. They got their opening goal on 4 minutes when Chris Maclennan played the ball forward, Will Cowie whipped the ball across goal and John Angus MacInnes turned it into the net to make it 1-0. Skye continued to press and they made it 2-0 on 10 minutes. Chris MacLennan and Iain MacLellan played a double one-two and MacLellan beat keeper Cal Brown with a crisp shot. Skye looked likely to increase their lead further but a mixture of a stout defending from the Fort rear-guard, well marshaled by veteran Adam Robertson, and some wasteful finishing, saw the score remain the same. Skye were made to pay on 39 minutes when Lewis Morrison shot through a ruck of players and although Michael Nicolson managed to get his feet to the ball, he couldn’t keep it out of the net. Skye took this single goal advantage into the break but they restored their two goal advantage on 50 minutes when the impressive John Angus MacInnes collected the ball on the right and fired home to make it 3-1. There was no further scoring and the win takes Skye to third place in the table. It was good to see Michael Nicolson back in goal and forward John Angus MacInnes was the pick of the outfield players. Adam Robertson and Jack Fraser were top performers for the visitors.
