Shinty Demonstrations At The Modesto Highland Games | |
01 June 2012 It will be a big shinty weekend across the water as Northern California Camanachd journey south to play Central California Camanachd at the Modesto Highland Games on Saturday 2 June 2012. The Modesto Highland Games take place at Toulumne River Regional Park, Modesto and the shinty players will take the field to take part in demonstration matches at 11am and at 2pm. Central California Camanachd squad captain Steve Aitchison said, “It'll be a fun event. The park is an "intimate" setting, nestled in the trees along the Tuolumne River which comes straight out of Yosemite. We've got a pretty good sized field to play on at the west end of the games area. The only caveat is that there is an asphalt pathway that leads across the middle of the field so we advise against the hard plastic type of soccer cleat as it might be slick on this surface. This will be the first official event of the Central California Camanachd Club and we'd love to have as many of the NCC folk out to help us kick things off!” Max Taylor from NCC was equally enthusiastic and he commented, “This is a really neat opportunity to play shinty in front of a crowd and possibly help grow a rival club in a nearby locale. We hope many of our players can make it out.” Steve Aitchison has graciously offered to host a post-Games BBQ at his nearby, very awesome New Caledonia Ranch! He said, “Everyone is welcome to our place afterwards, even if it is just to crash over. Some folk are going to Yosemite the next day as it is less than an hour up the road from us.” |
