AJG Parcels Glasgow Celtic Society Cup – Quarter Final
Inveraray 1 Kyles Athletic 0
The match of the day in the AJG Parcels Glasgow Celtic Society Cup quarter finals was the clash between Inveraray and holders Kyles Athletic at the Winterton. Russell MacKinlay was back for the home side but Kyles were without defender Andrew King who started a two match ban. Kyles sat third top in the league compared to Inveraray who were third bottom so the visitors were favourites. However a Euan MacMurdo goal on the hour mark was all that separated the sides as Inveraray continue to be a bogey team for the Tighnabruaich men.

Inveraray 2 Kyles Athletic 1
Artemis Macaulay Cup holders Kyles Athletic are out of this year’s competition following their 2-1 defeat to their bogey side Inveraray at the Winterton. Inveraray’s Gary MacPherson scored the only goal of the first half on 20 minutes but Kyles’ Ewan Campbell levelled 20 minutes from time. Chris Crawford got the winner in the final minute to put Inveraray through to the next round.

Kyles Athletic 4 Inveraray 1
Kyles Athletic capitalised on Lovat’s league defeat to go top of the table following a 4-1 derby win over Inveraray at Tighnabruaich. The win was due in no small way to the Whyte clan as Gordon Whyte opened the scoring on 2 minutes and Thomas Whyte made it 2-0 on 28 minutes to give the home side a 2-0 lead at the break. Inveraray’s Euan McMurdo pulled a goal back 5 minutes into the second half but John Whyte restored Kyles’ two goal advantage when he struck on 58 minutes to make it 3-1. Referee David Mitchell awarded Kyles a penalty on 72 minutes and Robbie MacLeod duly obliged to make it 4-1.

Scottish Hydro Camanachd Cup – Quarter Final
Inveraray 4 Kyles Athletic 1
The only all-south tie of the quarter finals saw Kyles Athletic lose for the first time in the season as they went down 4-1 to Inveraray at the Winterton. The sides had met twice already this season with Kyles winning both times. Inveraray had Kyles watched in the Glasgow Celtic Society Cup Final against Oban Camanachd the previous weekend so their boss John Smylie had his players well prepared for this one. Several pundits, including Scotland Head Coach Drew McNeil, fancied Inveraray to progress to the semi-finals as they did last season before losing out to eventual winners Fort William. Kyles were without Donald Irvine who was controversially ordered off near the end of the previous week’s final and he was left watching nervously on the touchline as he started a two match ban. Euan MacMurdo got Inveraray off to a great start with a goal after just 3 minutes. Grant Griffin made it 2-0 on 25 minutes and he scored again straight from the throw up. Inveraray were in control and they took this 3-0 lead into the break. Scotland U21 cap Robbie MacLeod pulled a goal back 5 minutes from time but Euan MacMurdo added his second in the final minute to give the home side a well-deserved 4-1 triumph as they put the Scottish Hydro Premier Division leaders and Glasgow Celtic Society Cup winners out of the 2011 competition.

Kyles Athletic 3 Inveraray 3
Kyles Athletic switched their home match against Inveraray to Glasgow Mid Argyll’s Yoker pitch as maintenance work was being carried out on their Tighnabruaich ground. Kyles went into the game without the injured Grant Irvine who was a doubt for the rest of the season with a knee injury. Inveraray were the only team to have beaten Kyles Athletic this season when they knocked them out of the Scottish Hydro Camanachd Cup. The importance of this game for the Winterton side was emphasised when Russell MacKinlay made a rare away match appearance. The title challengers were stunned when Inveraray ran into a 2-0 lead thanks to goals from Garry MacPherson on 14 minutes and Russell MacKinlay on 20 minutes. A Roddy MacDonald goal 5 minutes from the break got Kyles back in the game and a Robbie MacLeod effort on the hour mark made it 2-2. This was Inveraray’s last game of the season and they are fighting for their lives in a bottom of the table relegation battle with Lovat and Oban Camanachd. Inveraray regained the lead on 66 minutes when referee Ted MacDonald awarded them a penalty which Garry MacPherson duly converted. However newly crowned Marine Harvest National Player of the Year Roddy MacDonald hit his second goal of the afternoon on 71 minutes to make it 3-3 and earn his side a share of the points. The result left Inveraray safe in shinty’s top division.
This means that from the seven meetings over the last two years, Inveraray have won three times, Kyles Athletic have won three times and there has been one draw.
