04 March 2012 The Skye Camanachd U17 side beat Newtonmore U17 3-1 in their London Shield meeting at Blairbeg onWednesday 27 June 2011. This was Newtonmore’s home fixture but the sides agreed to play on a neutral venue because of the travel difficulties in fulfilling such a midweek fixture. Skye were missing defender Ruairidh Morrison who was working and forwards Jordan Murchison and Will Cowie who were injured. Fellow forward Magnus Burd was also unavailable as he was on holiday. Jack Latton returned to the Skye side following a short spell with Strathglass. There were starting places for Angie MacPherson and Calum Gibb in attack. The Skye youngsters took an early lead thanks to good play from make-shift forward Calum Gibb when he gathered possession on the Skye right before firing into the net on 9 minutes. However this was to be Gibb’s last contribution as he was to be forced off through injury moments later with Ian MacPherson taking his place. However Newtonmore leveled through Angus Gray so the first half ended all square A second half double from the impressive Andrew Grant sealed victory for the Islanders in what was a testing match with so many absentees.
