Newtonmore 7 Kingussie 2 | |
25 May 2012 Newtonmore beat Kingussie 7-2 in their Marine Harvest North Division 2 derby clash at the Eilan on Friday 25 May 2012. This reserve Badenoch derby has been traditionally played on a Friday night in recent seasons and it always attracts a large crowd. David Campbell and Brett Munro were free of suspension for Newtonmore. ‘Mores Neil Stewart and Kings’ Greg MacRae missed out through injury for this 7pm throw up. Veteran Michael Clark got Kingussie off to a great start when he scored the opening goal after just 8 minutes. However Newtonmore took a grip on the game and Evan Menzies made it one each on 26 minutes and Calum Stewart put the home side in front just 4 minutes later. More added two more before the break through Menzies again on 36 minutes and Stewart again 4 minutes later. Ross Aitken made it 5-2 just 10 minutes into the second half and when Owen Fraser added a sixth on 65 minutes, the game was over as a contest. Ross Aitken got his second on 72 minutes and although Michael Clark got what was his second 10 minutes from time, it is the reigning champions who extend their lead over second place Skye Camanachd to six points at the top of the table with a 7-2 victory. |
