Lovat Win 2012 Inverness Sixes | |
29 July 2012 Lovat won the 2012 Inverness Sixes following a great day’s shinty at the Bught Park, Inverness on Sunday 29 July 2012. There were three main competitions run throughout the day which was sponsored by HIS. The Ken Ross Trophy for U14 teams always attracts a large number of entries and Kingussie won last year’s event. However their Badenoch rivals Newtonmore, coached by Michael Ritchie, were this year’s winners. Glengarry successfully defended the Alistair Gow Shield for women’s’ teams and they beat Badenoch & Strathspey in the final. Laura Gallacher was named player of the tournament. The senior teams which didn’t qualify for the final stages of the Jubilee Shield competed for the Rosedean Trophy where Aberdeen University A beat Caberfeidh 2-0 in the final. The Jubilee Shield for senior teams has been won by Kinlochshiel for the last three years but Lovat came out on top in this year’s event following a penalty shoot-out victory over Aberdeen University B. The Aberdeen B side included several Glenurquhart players; Neale Reid, Andrew Corrigan, Ally MacKintosh and Liam Girvan as well as Lovat’s Martin Bell. Owen Ferguson put Lovat ahead but a Neale Reid double gave Aberdeen the advantage. However a Greg Matheson goal took the final to a penalty shoot-out with Lovat captain Callum Cruden scoring the only goal from the six penalties. Aberdeen B’s Neale Reid was named player of the tournament with Lovat trio Stuart MacDonald, Callum Cruden and Owen Ferguson also playing very well. The winning Lovat team was; Stuart MacDonald, Drew Howie, Callum Cruden (captain), Lorne MacKay, Owen Ferguson, Greg Matheson, Daniel Grieve, Calum Macaulay A total 29 teams entered the 2012 event with 17 teams entering the senior event, whilst 6 teams entered both the Ladies and U14 competitions.
