Lovat 3 Skye Camanachd 0 | |
03 July 2012 The Skye Camanachd second team went down 3-0 to Lovat in their Marine Harvest North Division 2 meeting at Balgate on Saturday 30 June 2012. Skye manager Murdo Morrison named a 15 man squad for the noon throw up and he made five changes to the 17 man squad which beat Lovat on penalties in their last outing. Allan MacLeod, Chris MacLennan and Neil John Campbell were all injured whilst keeper John MacLeod and Ally “Spod” MacLeod were unavailable. Iain Munro was added to the squad as were David MacInnes, Iain “Spod” MacLeod, and Angie MacPherson. This was the sides’ second meeting in consecutive Saturdays and it took penalties to separate the sides at Pairc nan Laoch, Portree last week before the Islanders progressed in the Strathdearn Cup. Lovat had a strong spine to their team and they started with Jimmy MacKenzie at full back, Euan Ferguson at full centre and Fraser Gallacher in attack. Both teams had fairly even possession in the early part of the game but it was Lovat who took the lead thanks to a well struck Fraser Gallacher effort from distance on 33 minutes. Skye’s Iain MacLellan had a chance to level when he nipped into the D but his shot went over the top. Moments later MacLellan forced a save from Lovat keeper James Matheson and Lovat took their single goal advantage into the break. Lovat went 2-0 up on 67 minutes. Skye passed up a couple of opportunities to stop the ball and Fraser Gallacher latched onto it 5 yards outside the D and swept the ball into the net. Fraser Gallacher completed his hat-trick on 72 minutes. This time the Lovat front-man flicked the ball past David Grant and although Skye keeper Iain Munro got to the ball, Gallacher retrieved possession and scrambled the ball over the line to make it 3-0. Skye substitute David MacInnes suffered a knee injury at the end of the game. The win takes Lovat off the bottom of the table.
