25 May 2012 Two late Iain Nicolson goals gave Skye Camanachd a 2-0 win in their Marine Harvest North Division 1 meeting with Inverness at the Bught Park on Saturday 19 May 2012. Skye manager Willie MacRae made four changes to the squad which beat Lochcarron the previous weekend. John MacLeod took over from Iain Munro in goal. Injury ruled out Iain Morrison and Jamie MacDonald whilst Iain Grant returned to second team action. John Angus MacInnes received a call up as did Chris Rose and Ally “Cloudy” MacLeod. However the game came too early for Gilleasbuig MacDonald, who has not recovered from a hand injury, and Shaun Hedley also remains on the sidelines. Inverness bosses Stevie Munro and James MacDougall also had several absentees including former Skye Camanachd player Somhairle MacDonald, Connor Golabeck, David Wylde and Davie Glass. It was a game of few chances, although it took two outstanding saves from Skye keeper John MacLeod to keep the Islanders on level terms. One of these saves, when he stretched low to stop the ball going in at the post was particularly impressive. The game-changing moment came 10 minutes from time when Skye manager Willie MacRae pushed defender Iain Nicolson into attack with Ally MacDonald dropping back to cover Nicolson’s defensive role. The former Inverness youth player repaid his manager’s faith by netting the opener on 86 minutes when he made enough space to turn and shoot past MacMaster in the Inverness goal. The second goal came in the final minute and it was very similar to the first with Iain Nicolson again netting to ensure the points went back to Skye. Skye’s Chris Rose went over on his ankle during the game and boss Willie MacRae will be hoping that the injury doesn’t keep him out for too long. Former Skye Camanachd player Dougie Rankin featured at full back for the Capital side and his commanding performance at the back looked to have earned his side a point until Nicolson’s later intervention. The win takes Skye Camanachd to the top of Marine Harvest North Division 1. They lead second place Lochaber by a single point although the Spean Bridge side has a game in hand.
