Glengarry A Win 2012 Johnstone Rose Bowl. | |
28 January 2012 Glengarry A won the 2012 Johnstone Rose Bowl at the Nevis Centre, Fort William on Saturday 28 January 2012. The 'Garry Girls beat Badenoch 3-1 in the final after the Strathspey side had beaten Lochaber 4-3 in an exciting semi final. The competing teams, who produced a great day's shinty, were initially spilt into two leagues with the top two teams qualifying for the semi final stage. The Skye Camanachd Ladies took part and they performed well and were unlucky not to reach the last four. They won three of their five league fixtures but just missed out on a last four spot as they finished in third place. Glengarry A take the trophy from the Glengarry B side which won the competition in 2011. The Johnstone Rose Bowl was donated to the Glengarry Girls Shinty Club in 1998 (a year after the team was formed) by Mrs Ailsa Johnstone of DA Johnstone & Son Contractors, Invergarry who have been loyal sponsors of the cup. The Johnstone tournament is the oldest competition in Women's Shinty and its popularity has grown through the years. It's a very friendly tournament which guarantees some fine displays of women's shinty in closely contested games. For the first few years the tournament was played outdoors in the summer months but it is now held every January at the Nevis Centre, Fort William. |
