30 March 2012 The case of Bolton Wanders footballer Fabrice Muamba has again led to calls for the introduction of widespread heart screening but a leading Skye-based sports medicine expert urges caution. Such a move would have far-reaching implications which have yet to be afforded the same level of debate. Keith MacKenzie from the West Highland Free Press has taken opinion from leading figures including Dr Jonathan Hanson, who aside from his duties as a doctor at Broadford Hospital is a leading consultant in sport and exercise medicine. Dr Hanson has advised and trained medics and physios from the spheres of both the English Premiership and Scottish Rugby.
