Camanachd Association Announce New Sponsor & New Cup For Shinty’s Top Flight. | |
20 February 2012 The Camanachd Association has announced that the Orion Group will sponsor shinty’s top league for seasons 2012 and 2013. Shinty’s top flight will know be known as the Orion Group Premiership and when the new season gets underway on Saturday 3 March 2012, the the top ten shinty teams in the country will be competing to be the first to lift the new Orion Group Premiership Trophy. The Orion Group Premiership is expected to be one of the most competative in years with the added attraction of the introduction of two ‘Orion Group Premiership Derby Days’ to coincide with bank holiday weekends. Announcing the sponsorship at Orion Group’s Head Office in Inverness today were Camanachd Association Vice-President, Jim Barr and Orion Group’s Head of Marketing Development, Scott Burns-Smith. The Group recently won two multi-million pound deals to the value of £20million per year with the Canadian-based energy company, Nexen Petroleum UK Ltd and Scott Burns-Smith said, “Whilst Orion Group is a worldwide business our history is firmly in the Highlands. As a company we have a strong focus in working with the communities on various projects and commercial opportunities and we are pleased to offer our support to the Camanachd Association. 2012 is an exciting year for us with the Group celebrating its 25 year anniversary and we all look forward to the launch of the Orion Group Premiership in March.” Jim Barr added, “Today marks a great day for shinty and we are delighted to welcome Orion Group as title sponsor of the Premiership for the next two years. Their investment represents a significant boost for the sport and will de used to help promote and develop shinty across the country, particularly at youth level.
