Aberdeen University 5 Skye Camanachd 1 | |
14 August 2012 The Skye Camanachd second team went down to a 5-1 Marine Harvest North Division 2 defeat to Aberdeen University in the Granite City on Saturday 11 August 2012. Skye manager Murdo Morrison named a 15 man squad for this 2pm throw up. Morrison was unable to make the trip because of work commitments so assistant manager David Grant looked after the side. Andrew Banks was a late call-off which reduced the travelling party to 14 players. There were three other changes from the squad which beat Fort William the previous weekend. Paul MacKinnon returned after missing last week’s game whilst U17 players Ally “Cloudy” Macleod and Ally MacCrimmon were also included. Allan MacLeod and Will Cowie were on first team duty whilst Angie Grant was not included. Aberdeen University were able to call on the services of Jamie Bell who missed their 4-3 defeat in Portree a fortnight earlier. The Students put Skye under pressure from the start and it was no surprise when former Skye Camanachd player Jamie Beaton fired his side into a 12 minutes lead. Beaton added a second on 18 minutes although this was a soft goal to lose from a Skye perspective as the Aberdeen full forward pushed the bag over the line. Another former Skye player was centre of attention moments later, but for the wrong reasons, as Kenny MacLeod was red carded by referee Graeme MacMillan after he lashed out at Skye’s Magnus Burd. Skye tried to make their one man advantage count and they pulled a goal back on 33 minutes when John MacKenzie swept home a cross into the D. However the second half belonged to Aberdeen and they extended their advantage on 51 minutes when Jamie Bell, who was central to everything creative from the home side, fired past Michael Nicolson to make it 3-1. Skye pushed David Grant into attack in a move to change the pattern of the game. However it was to no avail and Jamie Beaton took his tally to four goals when he netted on 57 and 64 minutes to make it 5-1. Best for Skye was Paul MacKinnon but the Islanders will have to put in a much better performance next weekend if they are to get past Beauly in the Strathdearn Cup semi-final.
