Trains, Planes & Automobiles …… But No Ferries! | |
17 February 2014 Skye Camanachd’s Gilleasbuig MacDonald showed plenty of commitment to get to the Islanders pre-season friendly match against Glenurquhart at Blairbeg on Saturday 15 February 2014. Gibbs, as he is known to his Skye team mates, is currently working in Stornoway as a producer with Radio nan Gaidheal. An alarm clock malfunction (his radio alarm was set on an English speaking station, and not his accustomed Gaelic, so he ignored it) meant he missed an early morning ferry from Stornoway to Ullapool where he had arranged transport on to Inverness and then to Drumnadrochit. Not to be defeated, Gibbs opted to fly from Stornoway to Inverness – with the high winds making for testing flying conditions - before travelling by car from Inverness Airport to Glenurquhart’s home pitch at Blairbeg. Unfortunately Skye Camanachd went down to a 5-0 defeat against the Orion Group Premiership opposition but Gibbs played very well in midfield and was given the honour of captaining the side as a reward for his ingenuity and dedication to the cause. |
