Camanachd Association Chief Operating Officer, Torquil MacLeod, is to leave the organisation at the end of November 2016 after more than six years in the role.
Torquil MacLeod was appointed as the Camanachd Associations first Chief Operating Officer following a restructure in April 2010. He has presided over a successful period off the pitch for the Camanachd Association where new codes have been introduced and where the Association is in a much stronger position financially. He was popular with his staff and well-regarded in the game and extremely committed to furthering the sport of shinty. Developments on the pitch have included the introduction of a national second tier and an expansion of the women’s game. He will continue in his current role until November 2016 which coincides with the end of the shinty season and the end of the Camanachd Association’s financial year.
Camanachd Association President Jim Bar said, “The Camanachd Association is very sorry to be losing such an effective and dedicated Chief Operating Officer. However there was always the understanding that Torquil would move on at some point. Torquil leaves the Association in a much stronger and sustainable position than he inherited both administratively and financially, and that is a legacy of which he can be justifiably proud. We are pleased that Torquil has secured a new position which will give him opportunities for personal and professional growth. VisitScotland will benefit significantly from the skills and commitment which Torquil has to offer. We wish him much success.”
Torquil MacLeod said, “It has been a privilege to work with the Camanachd Association and wider shinty community for the past six years and I am extremely grateful to the Board, staff and many volunteers who have supported me in the role. I have learnt a huge amount and consider the organisation and the sport to have made good progress, with great opportunity and potential for continued development in the years ahead. Although I will be sorry to leave, the time is now right for me to progress my career and I am pleased to have secured a new role with VisitScotland and the opportunity to contribute to the ongoing development of Scotland’s world-class tourism and events industry.”
The Camanachd Association Board of Directors will now take time to review the current role of Chief Operating Officer in the weeks ahead, after which the intention is to advertise the role and appoint a successor at the earliest opportunity.
Torquil MacLeod moves to take up a new position as Development Manager with VisitScotland, Scotland’s national tourism organisation, working in the Events Directorate based in Edinburgh.
