Third Place Finish For Portree High School In 2014 Roberson Sixes | |
02 April 2014 Portree High School finished in third place in the 2014 Robertson Cup Shinty Sixes which took place at Blairbeg on Tuesday 1 April 2014. This U14 competition had a 12 noon start. Portree High School were runners up last year and their opponents included 2013 winners Lochaber High School and hosts Glenurquhart High School as well as Kinlochbervie and Kilochleven. Portree, Glenurquhart A, Charleston and Lochaber all won through from the group stages. In the semi finals, Glen A defeated Charleston 2-0 and Lochaber defeated Portree in sudden death penalties after the teams were locked at 2–2 after extra time. Portree claimed third spot after defeating Charleston Academy 2-0 in the third / fourth place play-off. In a close and exciting grand final, Glenurquhart beat Lochaber 1-0, with the host’s goal scored by Edward Noble in the second minute of the golden goal period after the regulation time ended 0-0. There was further joy for Glenurquhart when their keeper Finlay Ralston was named player of the tournament. Event organiser, Allan MacLeod of Inverness Shinty Club said, “It is encouraging to see so many schools from across the north of Scotland come together to take part in this event.
