The Marine Harvest Premiership front-runners changed once again as Newtonmore now top the table on goal difference following the shinty action on Saturday 23 April 2016.
Camanachd Cup - Preliminary Round
Bute 2 Inverness 0
Bute are through to the Camanachd Cup first round after they beat Inverness 2-0 in their 1.30pm throw up at the Meadows
The goals that mattered came either side of the break. Bute went in front on 37 minutes when Iain MacDonald beat Inverness stand-in keeper Somhairle MacDonald, who was in goal as he was carrying an injury, to make it 1-0.
Iain MacDonald got his and Bute’s second on 55 minutes and the two-goal cushion was enough to earn the Islanders a trip to Braeview Park to play Beauly in the Camanachd Cup first round on Saturday 7 May 2016.
Gregor Cameron Consultancy Glasgow Celtic Society Cup – Quarter Finals
Col Glen 0 Oban Camanachd 4
Oban Camanachd were too strong for Col Glen, winning 4-0 in their quarter-final tie at Glendaruel.
This tie was a bit of a battle on a spongy surface which wasn’t conducive for flowing shinty.
Oban Camanachd are two divisions above their rivals and Aidan MacIntyre put them ahead on 17 minutes and Daniel MacVicar made it 2-0 on 38 minutes.
The pattern of pay continued into the second half and Aidan MacIntyre got his second and Oban’s third just 10 minutes into the second period.
Willie Neilson completed the scoring on 72 minutes to make it 4-0.
Oban Camanachd hit the post twice and the crossbar once and the Col Glen keeper made some good saves to keep the score down.
Iain Hay’s side will just be pleased to have reached the semi-final stage where they will face Kyles Athletic in mid-May.
Glasgow Mid Argyll 5 Oban Celtic 1
Glasgow Mid Argyll are through to the Gregor Cameron Consultancy Glasgow Celtic Society Cup last four after they beat Oban Celtic 5-1 in their 1.30pm throw up at Yoker.
Glasgow Mid Argyll manager George Hay was without Mark Bain who was working and Brian Slattery who was on holiday. However former Glenorchy player John MacNulty was included in the senior squad for the first time.
Oban Celtic boss Kenny Wotherspoon travelled without injured duo Neil Carmichael and Lee Askew whilst David MacInnes was ruled out through work commitments.
The game started at a frantic pace, with the dry pitch bringing out the best and worst for both sides. Oban Celtic were first to benefit when Daniel MacMillan raced onto a bouncing ball and he slotted the ball home with just a couple of minutes played.
The quick pace continued for the remainder of the half and but it was the hosts who would take a 2-1 lead into the break thanks to two wonderful strikes. Craig Anderson equalised when he turned a defender and crashed a back-hand shot into the roof of the net from the edge of the D with 22 minutes played.
A couple of minutes later, Garry Luke put GMA in front when he was allowed too much time around 35 yards from goal and he shot from distance into the top corner of the net for what was the goal of the afternoon.
Oban Celtic boss Kenny Wotherspoon re-shuffled his pack to try and take the game to GMA however his half-time team talk and game plan went out the window when Euan Forsyth made it 3-1 on 55 minutes. Forsyth was first to react after Oban Celtic keeper Scott Mossman had saved well and the GMA forward forced the ball into the bottom corner of the net.
GMA controlled the remainder of the game as Celtic were forced to make changes through injury.
Two late goals killed the tie. First, John McNulty notched a debut goal on 70 minutes. McNulty, who was also booked by referee Graham Cameron for a wild swing, got in on top of the keeper to bundle the ball over the line following an Iain Luke shot.
Craig Anderson rounded off the 5-1 win 5 minutes from time when Innes MacMillan sent a shy onto keeper Mossman and Anderson darted in to poke the ball low into the corner of the net.
GMA had other chances but they also found Oban Celtic forward Daniel Madej to be a real handful and he caused them problems throughout the game.
GMA will play Inveraray in the Gregor Cameron Consultancy Glasgow Celtic Society Cup semi-finals which are scheduled for Saturday 14 May 2016.
Marine Harvest Premiership
Lovat 0 Newtonmore 4
Reigning champions Newtonmore returned to the top of the Marine Harvest Premiership following their 4-0 win over Lovat at Balgate.
Lovat manager John MacRitchie was without Callum Cruden after it was confirmed that he suffered a broken ankle against Fort William three weeks earlier. Injury also ruled out Martin Mainland. Calum MacAulay was back after injury and he started on the bench. Ryan Ferguson and Lorne Mackay returned to the starting line-up after missing the win over Kingussie a fortnight earlier.
Norman Campbell was sidelined for Newtonmore following knee surgery the previous Wednesday but there are hopes that he could return sooner than initially expected. With Jamie Robinson still working his way back to full fitness, ‘More boss Paul John MacKintosh started the ever-green Kenny Ross at full centre and the 45 year old lined up in direct opposition to Lovat’s 18 year old full centre Danny Kelly.. Evan Menzies was unavailable as he attended a wedding so Neil Stewart started in attack. Fraser MacKintosh was back after missing the previous weekend’s win over Skye but he was only fit enough to take up a place on the bench where he was an unused substitute. Rory Kennedy recovered from an ankle injury picked up in the Skye game and he took up his usual defensive position.
Newtonmore went in front on 18 minutes. Referee Innes Wood penalised Lovat defender Michael MacKenzie for a “kick” near the edge of the D. A quickly taken free-hit found Glen MacKintosh, who seemed within the required 5 yards, and the Scotland forward took advantage as his powerful shot seemed to catch Lovat goalie Stuart MacDonald by surprise and the ball squirmed between his legs into the net.
Newtonmore goalie Owen Fraser was forced to make his only real save of the game on 28 minutes when Danny Kelly burst through from midfield and the keeper saved with his body with the ball deflecting onto the post and away to safety.
Lovat’s Kevin Bartlett had to leave the field with a head injury on 40 minutes and Calum MacAulay came on to make his first appearance since suffering a head injury in a pre-season friendly. MacAulay stayed on the field until the half-time interval after which Bartlett was able to continue.
On the stroke of half-time, Chris Sellar sent a strong shot across goal and the ball flew just outside the far post.
Young ‘More forward Iain Robinson took the ball in towards goal on 51 minutes and he had the confidence to go round keeper Stuart MacDonald and steer the ball into an empty net to make it 2-0.
Lovat’s Craig Mainland had to limp off on 57 minutes and Calum MacAulay returned to the field of play to add some pace to the Lovat centre line.
Newtonmore increased their lead on 58 minutes when Chris Sellar, who worked hard all afternoon, scored with a powerful shot to make it 3-0.
With an hour played, Ian Robinson went by the Lovat rear-guard and but his shot came back off the post when he looked sure to score.
Craig Mainland came back on for an injured Lewis Tawse on 65 minutes.
Lovat now had Kevin Bartlett playing full centre which resulted in the Lovat forward line seeing a lot more of the ball and, on 66 minutes, Bartlett fed the ball to Calum MacAulay and he crossed to Lorne MacKay at left wing-forward. MacKay’s fierce shot went just the wrong side of the post.
A couple of minutes later, Lorne MacKay collected the ball 30 yards out and another forceful effort rose just over the crossbar.
Newtonmore introduced Craig Ritchie into their defence in place of Rory Kennedy on 69 minutes. Kennedy still seemed troubled by an ankle knock. Ritchie went to wing back with Andy MacKintosh assuming the buckshee back role.
Newtonmore changed their centre line with 15 minutes remaining. David Fraser came on at wing centre with Drew MacDonald moving to full centre and Kenny Ross withdrawn.
Lovat made a change on 78 minutes as Euan Ferguson took over from Graeme MacMillan.
Iain Robinson turned his marker on 83 minutes and, from a tight angle on the right, his accurate shot produced a good save from Stuart MacDonald.
Iain Robinson capped a fine performance with his second goal of the game on 90 minutes.
It wasn’t Lovat’s best performance of the season but they did force ‘More work harder to preserve their clean sheet in the last quarter of the game. The mean Eilan back-line has now kept a clean sheet in five of their last six matches, with their captain and full back Steven MacDonald playing a major role in that achievement.
In the centre, Danny Kelly and Kenny Ross both had periods on top. The ‘More man was well supported by the speedy Drew MacDonald and Paul MacArthur’s big and accurate hitting. This provided plenty of the ball for the visiting forwards who really should have scored more against a shaky Lovat defence.
With Oban Camanachd in cup action, Newtonmore take up a familiar position at the top of the table. However it’s tight at the top with five teams all on seven points, only separated by goal difference.
Kinlochshiel 1 Lochaber 1
An early goal and a late goal meant it was honours even between Kinlochshiel and Lochaber at Kirkton
Kinlochshiel manager Colin Fraser had a full squad to choose from for what was his side’s first home match of the season.
Lochaber continued to be without Brian MacDonald, Neil MacDonald and Zandz Ferguson whilst Pat Toal was working. However keeper Callum MacDonald, who missed the previous weekend’s RBS MacTavish Cup win over Beauly, was back between the sticks.
Jordan Fraser gave ‘Shiel the lead after 15 minutes. The ball was played in to Fraser around 15 yards off the penalty spot and he hit it on the half-volley into the bottom corner of the goals.
Kinlochshiel had chances to add to their tally before half-time and they would later pay for not taking them.
Lochaber had most of the pressure in the second half but they were unable to unlock the home defence. When they did find the target, they found Scott Kennedy in good form.
When a blistering Shaun Nicolson shot cannoned off keeper Kennedy, it looked as if the home side might have done just enough to win the game.
Lochaber boss Ally Ferguson went for broke with 10 minutes remaining as he pushed full back Lachlan Campbell to full forward and changed his team’s approach. The move paid dividends on 85 minutes when a well-struck effort from Campbell found the back of the net to make it 1-1.
Lachlan Campbell nearly won it for the Spean Bridge men in the closing minutes yet the point could still prove invaluable come the end of the season and it lifts the side to seventh place in the table.
Kinlochshiel are now third on goal difference although they have played two matches more than the two teams above them.
Kyles Athletic 2 Skye Camanachd 0
Two late goals gave Kyles Athletic a 2-0 win over Skye Camanachd at Tighnabruaich
Kyles Athletic put twelve goals past Bute in their Gregor Cameron Consultancy Glasgow Celtic Society Cup quarter-final a week earlier despite being without Roddy MacDonald. However the Kyles talisman was back for this one.
Skye boss John MacLeod made four changes to the squad which lost 4-0 to Newtonmore in the RBS MacTavish Cup quarter finals seven days earlier. Chris MacLennan missed out with a broken thumb whilst Allan MacKinnon aggravated a muscle injury during Newtonmore match. Keeper Jamie Gannon had a jarred knee and DJ Gilpin returned to second team duty. There were call-ups for Neil John Campbell and Iain MacLellan whilst Scotland U21 keeper Iain MacLeod stepped in between the posts. Skye’s had other absentees as work commitments continued to rule out Shockie MacLennan and Iain Nicolson whilst Ally “Spod” MacLeod was still on the injury list. Will Cowie has returned from a spell abroad and he featured for the Skye seconds. Skye suffered a further blow when Steven Morrison took unwell on the journey south and was unable to play so Neil John Campbell started in defence.
Kyles had most of the possession but Skye put in a spirited performance and proved difficult to break down.
However Roddy MacDonald eventually broke the deadlock with just 9 minutes remaining. MacDonald collected the ball around 15 yards from goal and he ran across goal from left to right and although he didn’t catch the ball as he would have liked, it bounced through a ruck of players and into the bottom right-hand corner of the net to the relief of the home support.
Gordon Whyte made it 2-0 on 84 minutes. Whyte juggled the ball after a quick one-two and he passed the ball into the far corner of the net from just 5 yards out.
Second placed Kyles now only trail leaders Newtonmore on goal difference.
Skye will take great encouragement from their performance and they now have a “free-Saturday” this coming weekend as their players attend the “Skye Live” music festival.
Kingussie 4 Glenurquhart 3
Kingussie came from 3-1 down to beat Glenurquhart 4-3 and collect two valuable points at the Dell
Kingussie co-managers Russell Jones and Davie Anderson had Scotland defender Lee Bain back and he started at full back. However a foot injury sustained against Strathglass ruled out Ryan Borthwick whilst Rory MacKeachan was sidelined after having his appendix removed. Calum Grant was another absentee as he had studies to attend to. James Falconer came in at wing centre whilst Garry Munro went to buck-shee back and James Hutchison stayed up front.
Glenurquhart were along usual lines although Euan Lloyd was still missing. Joint-bosses Billy MacLean and Dave Menzies had James Hurwood in defence, and he was one of the best players on the day, whilst Andrew Corrigan lined-up in attack.
Kingussie started well and they had an early claim for a penalty when Glen keeper Stuart MacKintosh came off his line to meet James Hutchison with a feet-first challenge but referee Evan MacRae waved away their claims.
Glenurquhart quickly switched play up to the other end of the pitch and they took a 5 minutes lead through David Smart.
The visitors now had the better of the play and they cut open the Kings’ defence for Neale Reid to make it 2-0 on 12 minutes.
James Hutchison pulled a goal back for the Kings on 23 minutes. The goal came following a corner which John Barr chested down but Hutchison nipped in to steal possession and his shot beat keeper MacKintosh to make it 2-1.
Fraser Heath punished a defensive lapse which saw him left unmarked at the back post and he restored the Glen’s two-goal cushion, making it 3-1 on 37 minutes.
James Hutchison has added bite to the Kingussie attack since his move forward and he got his second goal – his fifth in the last two outings – to make it 3-2 just 4 minutes into the second half.
It was just the start to the second half that Kingussie needed and Rory MacGregor scored on 64 minutes to draw the home side level.
The fit Kingussie side now had the initiative but they spurned some chances and it remained 3-3 until a minute from time when Ryan MacWilliam sent Thomas Borthwick free and he smashed the ball into the roof of the net from 20 yards out with what was a sublime winning goal.
Kingussie, just behind Oban Camanachd, are the fifth team on seven points with only goal difference separating them from the teams above.
Marine Harvest National Division
Inveraray 1 Kilmallie 1
Kilmallie and Inveraray shared the points in a 1-1 draw at the Winterton
David MacPherson was missing for the home side whilst the visitors travelled without Duncan Rodger, Grant MacKenzie and Ryan Stewart.
It became an uphill task for Kilmallie when they had defender Craig MacIsaac sent off after just 15 minutes. MacIsaac was booked for a challenge by referee Robert Baxter and he received a second yellow card for speaking out of turn to the match official when the booking was being administered.
Despite being a player short, Kilmallie went in front on the stroke of half-time when Bryan Mackay hit a shot from far out and the ball flew into the roof of the net to make it 1-0.
Inveraray dominated most of the game and Kilmallie keeper Shane Gillies made a number of good saves to preserve his side’s lead.
However the hosts did find a leveller 15 minutes from time when Allan MacDonald punished a mistake in the visiting defence to make it 1-1.
Kilmallie had chances to win it by Scott MacLachlan in the Inveraray goal saved well on a couple of occasions.
And then at the other end, Inveraray almost won it at the death but Shane Gillies made a save right on the goal-line and he was able to get the ball away ahead on the on-rushing Inveraray forwards.
The final outcome could have gone either way but Kilmallie boss Mark MacPherson will probably be the happier of the two mangers having played so much of the match a player short.
The point takes Ruaraidh Graham’s Inveraray side level on points with league leaders Glasgow Mid Argyll but the Yoker side have a game in hand. Kilmallie are two points behind GMA but they have played a game fewer. It’s shaping up to be a close contest at the top of the table.
Caberfeidh 1 Beauly 0
Caberfeidh edged out Beauly 1-0 in their meeting at Castle Leod.
Beauly’s Ryan MacKay took his place in the starting lined-up after serving a one-match suspension but Barrie MacDonald was still out through injury. Veteran Allan MacDonald was in goals for Caberfeidh and the influential Ally MacLennan was missing.
It was a very even first-half with few goal opportunities.
Caberfeidh appealed for a penalty on 27 minutes when Beauly goalie Josh Grant fell to the ground. However their appeals were waved away by referee John Angus Gillies after consultation with his goal judge.
Beauly thought they had gone in front after 38 minutes when Jack MacDonald smashed an unstoppable drive into the top of the net. However referee Gillies ruled that Beauly forward Calum Morrison was in an offside position when the ball was struck.
The second half mirrored the first period with few chances at either end.
The only goal of the game came on the hour mark from an unlikely source as Caberfeidh wing centre James MacKintosh struck the ball from 25 yards out. The ball took a wicked deflection off Liam Mutch which wrong-footed goalie Josh Grant and the ball went into the keeper’s bottom left-hand corner of the net.
The remainder of the game ebbed and flowed and one of the features of the match was a good midfield battle between Cabers’ Craig Morrison and Beauly’s David MacLean. Blair Morrison also played well in defence for the home team whilst goalie Alan MacDonald made some fine saves.
Lee Nicol’s Caberfeidh side climb to third in the table and, importantly, they have games in hand on the teams above them.
Marine Harvest North Division 1
Strathglass 2 Kinlochshiel 0
League leaders Strathglass stay out in front after they defeated the Kinlochshiel second team 2-0 at Cannich.
Strathglass had influential defender George Phimister free of a one-match ban.
Scott Douglas and Barry Phimister got the goals for David Balharry’s side who stay a point in front of the Newtonmore seconds at the top of the table.
Newtonmore 8 Lovat 0
The Newtonmore seconds were too strong for the Lovat seconds, winning 8-0 in their meeting at the Eilan.
Newtonmore, who were without regular full centre Kenny Ross, won this match in the first half. David Cheyne put them ahead on 9 minutes and John MacKenzie was on target on 15 and 20 minutes to leave the home side 3-0 to the good.
Craig MacLeod hit a quick-fire double on 39 and 41 minutes before former first team keeper Michael Ritchie added a sixth on 44 minutes to make it 6-0 when referee Andy MacLean sounded his half-time whistle.
John MacKenzie completed his hat-trick just 4 minutes into the second half to make it 7-0 and David Cheyne, who started the scoring, also ended it with his second strike and Newtonmore’s eighth goal of the afternoon 20 minutes from time.
Second place ‘More stay a point ahead of third placed Kingussie but they have also played a game more.
Glenurquhart 1 Kingussie 2
The Glenurquhart colts went down 2-1 to the Kingussie colts at Blairbeg.
Kingussie led 2-0 at half-time with Ruaridh Anderson on 25 minutes and Kevin Thain on 40 minutes getting the goals.
Glen’s Ruairidh Ralston pulled a goal back 10 minutes from time but Kingussie saw out the closing stages and the win means they stay second and they have games in hand on the teams above them.
Skye Camanachd 0 Beauly 1
A late Marc MacLachlan goal gave the Beauly second team a 1-0 win over the Skye Camanachd second team at Pairc nan Laoch, Portree.
Skye boss Davie Pringle was forced to make five changes to the squad which narrowly lost to the Glenurquhart second team at Blairbeg a week earlier. He was without Iain Nicolson and Chris Rose whilst Neil John Campbell was with the Skye first team. Youth players Jamie Gillies and Martin Pringle were left out. Will Cowie started at buckshee forward following his return form a period abroad. DJ Gilpin was back in the side after being part of the first team pool the previous week and there were places in the starting line-up for Ian MacPherson and veteran Allan MacLeod.
Beauly boss Neil Brindle was without Sandy Tulloch but there was a place for Marc MacLachlan in attack as the striker looked to put his injury problems behind him. The Beauly seconds went into the match on the back of a 3-1 defeat to the Newtonmore second team and both sides felt they could take something from the game.
This was a game of few real chances and Skye came within a whisker of going in front when a second half David Grant shot came back off the base of the Beauly post.
However Beauly took advantage of a late set-piece opportunity when Martin Davidson touched the ball back to Marc MacLachlan who gave Skye keeper Ryan Morrison no chance with a fierce 87 minute drive.
Marine Harvest South Division 1
Aberdour 6 Lochside Rovers 3
Table toppers Lochside Rovers lost their league-leader status to Aberdour who recorded an impressive 6-3 victory when the sides met in a noon throw up at a bright and breezy Silver Sands.
Aberdour’s John Martin Philips was still out with a hand injury whist Lochside Rovers’ Jordan Kerr was free of a two-game suspension.
Lochside made the better start and they scored an early goal on 5 minutes when danger-man Brian MacCallum was afforded too much space by the ‘Dour defence.
Aberdour responded well and Roddy MacColl pulled his side level on 24 minutes with a superb strike from 30 yards out. MacColl's shot arrowed past a helpless Lochside keeper into the roof of the net.
Roddy MacColl turned provider on 28 minutes when he slipped the ball through to Angus Thorburn who buried a shot into the back of the net.
The Oban side made it 2-2 on the half-hour mark when Aberdour’s Cammy McCue unintentionally diverted the ball past keeper Tom Bowerman into his own net.
Lochside, who had scored early in the first half, also scored soon after the restart when referee Willie MacDonald awarded them a penalty. Michael MacQueen made no mistake from the spot to make it 3-2 to the away team with 48 minutes played.
‘Dour stepped it up again though and when Roddy MacColl played the ball onto the keeper a minute later, Angus Thorburn followed up to drill the rebound home to make it 3-3 with the Lochside claiming for offside.
Angus Thorburn completed his hat-trick to make it 4-3 on 70 minutes following a short-corner from Jack Mitchell and the home side now led for the first time in the match.
The contest swung from end-to-end but two late goals from Roddy MacColl completed his hat-trick and sealed the 6-3 victory. First, MacColl collected a long ball and shot goalwards with the ball deceiving the keeper as it took a bounce just in front of him.
Aberdour then had to rely on keeper Tom Bowerman to make a spectacular diving save to deny Brian MacCallum before Aberdour’s Craig Grant made a neat pass to Roddy MacColl and he fired home to make it 6-3 so Lisa MacColl’s side now sit proudly at the top of the table.
Inveraray 1 Kyles Athletic 1
The Kyles Athletic second team and the Inveraray second team shared the points following a 1-1 draw in their noon throw up at the Winterton.
Brandon Wilson put Kyles ahead on 38 minutes but David Robertson, working his way back after injury, levelled on 55 minutes.
This is a third draw in three matches for Kyles who move into fourth spot. It’s also a first point of the season for the Inveraray colts who remain bottom of the table.
Taynuilt 0 Glenorchy 1
A single goal was all that separated Taynuilt and Glenorchy in their derby meeting at the Taynuilt Playing Field.
The only goal of the match came after 15 minutes when Glenorchy’s Sandy Leiper scored. The goal came when the visitors won the ball in midfield and played it up to their forward line. There were a few tackles and the Taynuilt defence cleared the ball down the wing. Sandy Leiper collected possession in space and he took responsibility and looked up before sending a great drive inside the post, into the back of the net to make it 1-0.
Glenorchy had a few shots on goal in the second half but Chris Parr in the home goal was equal to their efforts.
Both teams played very well and there were very few fouls for referee Scot McNeil to deal with which meant a flowing game off shinty
It’s a first league win for Glenorchy in what was only their second league match of the season.
Marine Harvest North Division 2
Lochaber 3 Caberfeidh 1
The Lochaber reserves go top of Marine Harvest North Division 2 on goal difference after they beat the Caberfeidh reserves 3-1 at Spean Bridge.
Cabers went in front through Gavin MacLachlan and they took that 1-0 advantage into the half-time interval.
However the second half belonged to Lochaber and Ryan Toal levelled after playing a one-two with Keith Neville.
Keith Neville then turned scorer to put Lochaber 2-1 ahead. Neville got his second and Lochaber’s third from the edge of the D when he buried a Shane Latto cross into the back of the net.
Lochcarron 4 Boleskine 3
A Nick Dalgety hat-trick ensured Lochcarron came from 3-1 down to beat Boleskine 4-3 at Battery Park.
Jimmy MacKenzie gave Boleskine the lead on 18 minutes but and Iain Cameron goal on 38 minutes meant the sides went into the break on level terms.
Boleskine took the initiative after the restart and player / manager Jamie Matheson put them back in front on 48 minutes.
When Ross Anderson made it 3-1 on 55 minutes, Boleskine looked favourites to take both points.
However that’s when Nick Dalgety stepped in and he scored on 59, 67 and 69 minutes to put Lochcarron 4-3 ahead.
The win means Lochcarron only trail league leaders Lochaber on goal difference.
Kilmallie 1 Glengarry 4
Glengarry came from a goal down to beat the Kilmallie reserves 4-1 at the Canal Parks.
Kilmallie’s Liam MacDonald was back following injury and he put the home side ahead on 29 minutes with the only goal of the first half.
However Andrew Gilchrist levelled 3 minutes after the restart and Martin Cameron put ‘Garry 2-1 in front on the hour mark.
A late Scott Patterson double on 85 and 89 minutes rounded off the 4-1 win.
Inverness 2 Lewis Camanachd 1
The Inverness second team picked up their first points of the season when they beat Lewis Camanachd 2-1 in their 1pm throw up at the Bught Park.
Peter Gomez and Paul Duke went close for Lewis whilst Duncan MacIntyre had an effort ruled out for offside by referee Neil Ferguson.
However it was Andrew Crichton who put the Highland Capital side ahead with the only goal of the first half on 27 minutes as his strike from a corner took a slight deflection past Graham Cay in the Lewis goal.
Paul Duke equalised for Lewis following a Conor Chalmers corner on 62 minutes.
Inverness were playing well though, with veteran Ewen MacKinnon covering every blade of grass and they responded in the best possible way when Stuart MacRae grabbed what proved to be the winner just a couple of minutes later.
The win means Inverness move off the bottom of the table at Lewis Camanachd’s expense.
Marine Harvest South Division 2
Tayforth 4 Kilmory 2
Tayforth stay top of the pile after they defeated third placed Kilmory 4-2 at Levenhall Links.
Conor Sweeney scored on 25 minutes to put Tayforth ahead and Orsten Gardner made it 2-0 on 41 minutes.
Kilmory’s Duncan MacBrayne pulled a goal back a minute after the restart to make it 2-1.
Tayforth pulled away though and Brendan Duggan on 53 minutes and a second from Orsten Gardiner a couple of minutes later gave the home side a 4-1 advantage.
Kilmory’s Hal Jones made it 4-2 just 10 minutes from time but Tayforth saw out the closing stages of a keenly contested match, played in good spirit, to go two points clear at the top of the table.
The win sets up what could be the tie of the Aberdein Considine Sutherland Cup second round this coming weekend when Marine Harvest South Division 2 leaders Tayforth and Marine Harvest North Division 2 leaders Lochaber met at Levenhall Links
Aberdour 3 Glasgow Mid Argyll 4
Second placed Glasgow Mid Argyll reserves had to fight off an Aberdour come-back before eventually winning 4-3 in their second team clash at Silver Sands.
Two goals in two minutes gave GMA the early advantage with Connor MacLeod on 18 minutes and Graham Love a minute later making it 2-0.
Angus MacInnes made it 3-0 on 22 minutes and it looked as if there would only be one winner.
Lewis Nicol pulled a goal back for Aberdour on 27 minutes and when Kevin Latimer found the back of the net on the stroke of half-time to make it 3-2; GMA knew they had a fight on their hands.
Connor MacLeod got his second to make it 4-2 on 52 minutes.
Aberdour fought back and Robin Bremner made it 4-3 on the hour mark but there was no further scoring during the last half hour so GMA took the points.
GMA are now four points clear of third placed Kilmory but they have played two games more.
