Glenurquhart P Skye Camanachd P The Glenurquhart and Skye Camanachd first and second teams were to play a double-header at Blairbeg. However Skye Camanachd requested a postponement following the passing of former player, Committee member and shinty referee Kenny “Duchan” MacPherson whose funeral took place on the same day. Glenurquhart also suffered sadness following the passing of Mrs Dolly Fraser on Thursday 5 February 2015. Dolly, who was aged 95, was Glenurquhart Vice–Chieftain her association with the club goes back to 1948 and the rebirth of shinty in the Glen. Her sons; Callum, Ken and Ron, have a close affinity with the club whilst Grandson Russell Fraser is current club Chairman.
Inverness 0 Kinlochshiel 5 Kinlochshiel were 5-0 victors over Inverness at the Bught Park Outside Pitch. ‘Shiel led 4-0 before referee John Matheson blew for half time and they added another in the second half. Gordie MacDonald got the only goal of the second half.
Kilmallie 1 Inverness 0 The Kilmallie second team beat the Inverness reserves 1-0 at the Canal Parks. Craig MacIsaac scored the goal that separated the sides.
Kilmallie 2 Lovat 1 After the reserve meeting between the clubs, the Kilmallie seniors lifted the BSW Cup thanks to a 2-1 win over their Lovat counter-parts in what was a keenly contested and at times a bad tempered encounter at the Canal Parks. Kilmallie were a couple of defenders short including Peter Carmichael so Martin Stewart slotted in at buckshee back. Lovat missed Calum Cruden and Martin Mainland from the team that lost out on penalties to Skye a week earlier so Alan MacPherson started in defence. Lovat went in front on 5 minutes when Greg Matheson reacted first after home goalie Shane Gillies had knocked the ball down and Matheson made no mistake. Kilmallie came close to levelling on 15 minutes but Lovat goalie Stuart MacDonald made a fine save with his foot to keep out a fierce drive from Kilmallie full forward Seb MacMillan. Lovat’s Kevin Bartlett hit the crossbar on 18 minutes as the game swung from end to end. Kilmallie equalised on 34 minutes. Michael Rodger took a quick free-hit after John Stewart had been fouled and he played a one-two with Liam MacDonald before sending a shot from distance into the back of the net. Shane Gillies blocked a Jamie Matheson effort on 38 minutes but it was Kilmallie who would go in front just 3 minutes as Seb MacMillan netted from close-range following a corner. Kevin Bartlett then turned his man before his goal-bound effort was brilliantly turned away by Shane Gillies. The contest threatened to boil over just before the break and referee Evan MacRae’s half time whistle allowed both sides to regroup. There were no second half goals thanks to the form of both keepers. Stuart MacDonald made a good save from Seb MacMillan 10 minutes after the restart whilst at the other end, Shane Gillies did well to deny Kevin Bartlett. Whilst Lovat edged the first half, Kilmallie had the better of the second 45 minutes and it was Kilmallie captain Liam MacDonald who would go on to lift the BSW Cup. This was a winning start for new Kilmallie boss Mark MacPherson and he will hope that Martin Stewart makes a quick return from a foot injury. Lovat boss John MacRitchie will be concerned about a wrist injury to Daniel Grieve.

This was a first match back at the helm for Lochaber boss Ally Ferguson and his side fell behind to a first half Graham Campbell goal. Taynuilt 0 Ballachulish 1 Ballachulish beat Taynuilt 1-0 in their 2pm throw up at the Playing Field, Taynuilt. The only goal of the match came just before the break when Lorne Brown pounced on a rebound off the keeper to score his second goal in successive Saturdays. This was a competitive encounter, keeping referee Billy Wotherspoon on his toes, but the visitors were unable to add to their tally. Ballachulish have now fielded no fewer than eight U17 players in each of their last two games as manager Donald Wilson rewards the commitment shown at training. The Balla’ boss intends giving the youngsters the opportunity to gain experience at Marine Harvest National Division level this coming season, building on the recent successful seasons as part of a long term plan at the Jubilee Park club. |
