Scottish Hydro Camanachd Cup - First Round Glasgow Mid Argyll 2 Kilmallie 0 Glasgow Mid Argyll secured their place in the Scottish Hydro Camanachd Cup second round with a 2-0 win over Kilmallie at Yoker. This tie was originally to have been played at the Canal Parks but Kilmallie lost home advantage when GMA travelled north three weeks ago only to find the pitch unplayable. Craig Anderson put GMA ahead after just 2 minutes when he fired the ball into the bottom corner of the net from wide on the left. Scotland U17 cap Anderson made it 2-0 on 11 minutes with a shot through a ruck of players which flew into the top corner of the net from around the penalty spot. GMA suffered a blow when Anderson had to leave the field soon after with a pulled hamstring. The nearest Kilmallie came was when they had the ball in the home net on 15 minutes but it was ruled out for offside by referee Lachie Wood.
Oban Celtic 0 Caberfeidh 2 Caberfeidh are also through to the second round following a 2-0 win over Oban Celtic in their 1pm throw up in Oban. The sides couldn’t be separated last week, drawing 0-0 at Castle Leod. Caberfeidh’s Scott MacLean and Oban Celtic’s Scott Burnett missed this replay after being red carded in that tie. Craig Morrison put Cabers ahead after 36 minutes and he added a second a couple of minutes before the break. Caberfeidh will play Glenorchy at Castle Leod in the last sixteen of the competition.
Artemis Macaulay Cup – First Round Bute 2 Kyles Athletic 3 Kyles Athletic were given a fright by Bute at the Meadows, before running out 3-2 winners. James Craig put the Islanders ahead on 10 minutes but Roddy MacDonald made it 1-1 on 23 minutes. Robert Walker put Bute back in front on 27 minutes only for Roddy MacDonald to equalise again on the stroke of half time. Kyles Athletic talisman MacDonald completed his hat-trick on 57 minutes with what proved to be the winning goal.
Balliemore Cup – Quarter Final Strathglass 4 Glenorchy 2 Strathglass are the first team through to the last four of the Balliemore Cup following a 4-2 win over Glenorchy at Cannich. Strath manager Callum Duff served the final game of a three match ban so Innes Simpson again led the side. Josh Fraser gave Strathglass a 27 minute lead and the visitors added to their tally just before the break. First Darren Reid made it 2-0 on 42 minutes whilst Josh Fraser got his second a minute before referee John Matheson’s half time whistle. Steven Turner netted on 70 and 75 minutes to reduce the Strath’s advantage to a single goal but a Garry Reid effort 4 minute from time settled their nerves. Strathglass defender George Phimmister was sent off by referee Matheson.
Aberdein Considine Sutherland Cup Lovat 4 Newtonmore 1 The tie of the round was the noon throw up between Lovat and Newtonmore at Balgate and it didn’t disappoint. Fraser Gallacher gave Lovat the lead after 11 minutes and Thomas Fraser added a second on 24 minutes. ‘More’s Owen Fraser pulled a goal back on 59 minutes but Graeme MacMillan on 61 minutes and Fraser Gallacher’s second a minute later gave an Impressive Lovat side a 4-1 victory and a place in the last four.
Lochside Rovers 3 Fort William 5 There was a keenly contested clash between Lochside Rovers and Fort William in Oban with Fort William eventually running out 5-3 winners. Fort William raced into a 3-0 interval lead thanks to an Alexander MacMillan hat-trick on 16, 27 and 29 minutes. MacMillan got his fourth 5 minutes into the second half and the Fort looked to be through to the next round. Daniel MacKinnon on the hour mark and Shaun Morgan 10 minutes later reduced the deficit to 4-2. Davie Duncan made it 5-2 on 85 minutes although Daniel MacKinnon got his second a couple of minutes from time to reduce the deficit to 5-3.
Lochcarron 8 Glengarry 1 Marine Harvest North Division 3 league leaders Lochcarron powered past Glengarry, who are in the league above, 8-1 at Battery Park. Glengarry were without the influential Daniel MacLennan who served a one match ban for a points accumulation. Michael Brady was also missing as he served the second game of a two match ban for a points accumulation. However Scott Johnstone was free of suspension after missing the 10-0 win over Inverness because of his red card against Beauly a fortnight ago. Ross Brown continued his scoring streak with four goals whilst Robin Smith, Kenny Cushnie, Gregor Cushnie and Douglas MacKenzie got the others. Steven Simpson got a consolation strike for Glengarry.
Ballachulish 3 Lochaber 1 Marine Harvest South Division 2 side Ballachulish beat Lochaber from Marine Harvest North Division 2 3-1 at Jubilee Park. A Lorne Brown double and a goal from John Clark won the day for the home side with Martin Paterson countering for Lochaber.
Orion Group Premiership Newtonmore 4 Kingussie 0 Newtonmore ran out 4-0 derby winners against Kingussie at the Dell. Danny Macrae on 12 minutes and Glen MacKintosh just 4 minutes later gave ‘More a 2-0 lead. Fraser MacKintosh found the back of the net on 33 minutes to make it 3-0 at the interval. Fraser MacKintosh got his second on 52 minutes and Kingussie had keeper Craig Dawson to thank for some fine saves.
Lovat 4 Glenurquhart 0 Lovat beat Glenurquhart 4-0 in their 3pm throw up at Balgate. This was the sides second clash in three weeks with Lovat were 4-2 winners at the same venue in the Artemis Macaulay Cup. Greg Matheson put Lovat ahead on 21 minutes and a double from Lorne MacKay on 35 and 39 minutes gave the home side a 3-0 interval lead. Callum Cruden converted an 81 minute penalty after referee Deek Cameron pointed to the spot. The same sides will of course meet again in three weeks’ time in the Co-operative MacTavish Cup Final
Kinlochshiel 3 Oban Camanachd 1 Kinlochshiel added to Oban Camanachd’s woes with a hard fought 3-1 win at Kirkton. ‘Shiel were again without Graham Morrison and Fraser MacVicar and manager Johnston Gill named the same starting twelve which beat Lochaber the previous weekend. Oban Camanachd manager Gussie Campbell missed the Glasgow Celtic Society Cup defeat to Inveraray the previous week and he travelled North without attacking trio Aidan MacIntyre, Lewis Cameron and Gavin Stobbart. The home side started well shooting down the slope and it was no surprise when they took the lead after 7 minutes when Keith MacRae slammed a waist-high shot past Oban keeper Robert Dunnings. Oban Camanachd’s Gareth Evans was booked by referee John Angus Gillies after an altercation with Paul MacRae. The visitors came more into the game as the half went on and Iain MacMillan passed up a great chance when he shot against keeper Scott Kennedy after getting onto the end of a cross from the right. ‘Shiel almost doubled their lead when Gordie MacDonald rattled the post after being set up by John MacRae. The first half had been held up when Oban defender Daniel Cameron required treatment after receiving an accidental blow to the leg and ‘Shiel took advantage of the first half stoppage time as Keith MacRae got on the end of a fine Donald Nixon shy to make it 2-0. Oban Camanachd made a good start to the second half, with veteran Fraser Inglis prompting their attack. They came within a whisker of pulling a goal back when Iain Campbell, who had been impressive all afternoon, burst down the right and his shot came off the ‘Shiel post with Kennedy beaten. The home side went close when all three MacRae brothers combined and Gordie MacDonald put a rebound off Dunnings narrowly wide. Kinlochshiel’s Oliver MacRae then made a darting run down the left and played a one-two with Finlay MacRae before firing a great drive inches over the bar. Oban Camanachd pulled a goal back on 65 minutes when Iain Campbell finished off a flowing move by rocketing the ball into the top corner of the net from a tight angle on the right. Oban Camanachd were in the ascendency and they pressed the home defence. The visitors introduced Scotland U17 forward Malcolm Clark in place of Robert Alexander. However the home defence stood firm and it was ‘Shiel, albeit against the run of play, who extended their lead when Gordie MacDonald steered a ball down the middle into the net for his sixth goal in three games. Davie Glass got a late run-out in the home attack and the 3-1 win takes Kinlochshiel into fourth place in the table.
Lochaber P Fort William P The derby meeting between Lochaber and Fort William was originally scheduled to take place at Spean Bridge on Sunday 26 May 2013. However Fort William noted their unwillingness to play on a Sunday and some Lochaber players had made commitments which meant the game could not be played 24 hours earlier so the match will be scheduled for a late date.
Marine Harvest North Division 1 Beauly 4 Inverness 0 League leaders Beauly extended their lead at the top of the table with a 4-0 win over Inverness in their 3pm throw up at Braeview Park. Beauly started well and Jack MacDonald gave them a deserved lead after 23 minutes. Ross Forbes doubled Beauly’s advantage 5 minutes before the break. Barrie MacDonald made it 3-0 on 51 minutes after playing a one-two with Ross Forbes. Barrie MacDonald got his second from the penalty spot on 63 minutes after referee Evan MacRae spotted an infringement on Marc MacLachlan inside the D. Beauly now have a four point advantage over Kilmallie although the Canal Parks side have a couple of games in hand.
Marine Harvest South Division 1 Strachur 4 Kilmory 4 Strachur and Kilmory picked up a point each following a 4-4 draw in an eventful match at Strachurmore. Steven Wilson, Duncan MacNicol twice and Rhys Campbell counted for the home side whilst John Strachan, Mark Robertson, Iain Robertson and Ally MacLennan all replied for Kilmory. Referee Colin MacDonald red carded Kilmory scorers John Strachan and Mark Robertson.
Marine Harvest North Division 2 Kingussie 6 Skye Camanachd 1 Kingussie move off the bottom of the table with an emphatic 6-1 win over Skye Camanachd at the Dell. The Islanders had led the league ahead of this meeting but the damage was done in the first half when they trailed 5-1. Chris Hollysong opened for Kingussie with Jordan Murchison, who was marked by Ronald Ross in the early part of the game, making it 1-1. Savio Genini bagged a brace and veteran Kevin Thain helped himself to a hat-trick for the Kings. Jordan Murchison missed from the penalty spot on what was a bad day for the Islanders.
Aberdeen University 1 Glenurquhart 2 Glenurquhart travelled home with both points following a 2-1 victory over Aberdeen University at Balgownie. However they left it late before sealing the win. Glenurquhart were without the suspended Callum Smith who missed out because of a points accumulation. James MacFadyen put the Students ahead after 23 minutes but goals from Ross MacAulay on 75 minutes and Ross MacDiarmid 4 minutes later gave the Glen both points.
Beauly 4 Kinlochshiel 1 Beauly beat Kinlochshiel 4-1 in their noon throw up at Braeview Park. Martin Davidson gave Beauly the lead after just 5 minutes in what was their first real attack of the game. Duncan “DA” MacRae made it 1-1 following a goalmouth scramble on the hour mark but Beauly substitute James Cameron put the home side back in front on 74 minutes. Youngster Neil Brindle added a third on 69 minutes when he slammed home a rebound after the visiting keeper had saved a Martin Davidson penalty. James Cameron got his second in the final minute to round off a 4-1 win in a match which was closer than the scoreline suggests.
Marine Harvest South Division 2 Aberdour 0 Kyles Athletic 3 Top of the table Kyles Athletic extended their advantage over rivals Ballachulish, who were in cup action, with a 3-0 win over Aberdour at Silver Sands. Roddy MacColl got the opener with Matthew MacColl adding a double. Kyles now lead second place Ballachulish by four points but they have played a game more. Kyles keeper Innes MacDonald has maintained his record as the only keeper in all divisions to have played in all his team’s games and not concede a goal.
Bute 3 Inveraray 3 The reserve derby between Bute and Inveraray ended all square at the Meadows. Lewis MacNicol put Inveraray ahead after 7 minutes in this noon throw up. Robert MacKenzie levelled on 13 minutes only for Lewis MacNicol to get his second just 4 minutes later’ Liam Poole made it 2-2 on 21minutes and the score remained that way until Inveraray’s Lewis MacNicol completed his hat-trick on 73 minutes to put Inveraray 3-2 in front. However Stewart Stirling struck 4 minutes from time to earn the Islanders a point.
Tayforth 0 Col Glen 9 Col Glen were too strong for Tayforth, running out 9-0 winners at Musselburgh. Iain MacKellar put Col Glen ahead after just 2 minutes and the visitors benefited from an own goal on 6 minutes. Iain MacKellar got his second on 20 minutes before Jamie Sutton added a fourth on 31 minutes. Iain MacKellar completed his hat-trick on 36 minutes to make it 5-0 and Jack Smith ensured it was six with a goal a couple of minutes before the break. There was no further scoring until Donald MacDiarmid made it 7-0 just 20 minutes from time. Hamish Morrison on 78 minutes and Tom Smith a couple of minutes later completed the 9-0 victory. Col Glen go third, level on points with second place Ballachulish and fourth place Inveraray.
Marine Harvest North Division 3 Boleskine 2 Inverness 1 Boleskine came out on top in their local derby with Inverness, winning 2-1 at Smith Park. Boleskine’s Michael Pirrie was free of suspension after serving a one match ban for a points accumulation and he celebrated his return with a goal. Gavin Butterworth got the other for the home side with Andrew Henderson replying for Inverness. Boleskine are now level on points with leaders Lochaber but they have played a game more.
Kilmallie 2 Caberfeidh 2 Kilmallie and Caberfeidh shared the points with a 2-2 draw at the Canal Parks. Craig MacIsaac and Innes Blackhall were on target for Kilmallie with John Ritchie and David Mellis replying for Caberfeidh.
Lewis Camanachd W/O v Strathglass Lewis Camanachd were awarded the points as Strathglass were unable to raise a team from their trip to Shawbost. |
