20 April 2015 The Skye Camanachd first team beat Taynuilt 9-0 in their SSE Scottish Hydro Camanachd Cup Preliminary Round tie at the Taynuilt Playing Field on Saturday 18 April 2015. Steven Morrison returned to the Skye squad after serving a one match ban in the Balliemore Cup penalty shoot-out defeat to Bute last weekend. Iain Murray and Will Cowie were also back and John MacKenzie was called up from the second team after scoring in the Aberdein Considine Sutherland Cup win over Inverness last weekend. However forward Shockie MacLennan injured his knee in the Bute match and he faces a number of weeks on the sidelines. David MacInnes returned to the second team and manager John MacLeod left himself out of the squad. Allan MacKinnon remained out. Taynuilt were without Steven Parr, injured duo Steven Cameron and Lorne Gillies as well as Stewart Sloss who was suspended for this 2.30pm throw up. Skye started this cup-tie very well and Taynuilt keeper Gary Cameron made four good saves inside the first four minutes of the game. It was then the turn of Skye goalie Iain MacLeod to be called into action and he saved with his feet on 5 minutes. Home keeper Cameron saved again on 8 minutes to deny Will Cowie whilst Danny Morrison sent a long rage effort whistling past the post shortly after. Skye had plenty of pressure but they lacked an end product as Jordan Murchison shot over the bar on 12 minutes and a Kenny MacLeod effort went the wrong side of the post a couple of minutes later. A good move involving the Skye forwards on 14 minutes ended with Will Cowie missing the target. Skye eventually had the ball in the net on 34 minutes only for referee David Stafford to rule the effort out offside. With 5 first half minutes remaining, Skye manager John MacLeod made a positional change which saw Kenny Campbell move to full forward and Kenny MacLeod drop back to wing centre. The switch paid off just a couple of minutes later when Kenny Campbell opened the scoring with a sweet 15 yard back-hand shot which flew into the net and Skye had to settle for a single goal lead at the break. Skye showed their intent from the start of the second half and they made it 2-0 on 46 minutes when a Jordan Murchison rocket cannoned into the net off the post for his first goal of the afternoon. Skye were now giving the Taynuilt defence a torrid time and Gary Cameron saved from Will Cowie on 48 minutes. A minute later, Kenny Campbell hit the post as Skye looked for more goals. And more goals followed as a great effort from Danny Morrison made it 3-0 on 50 minutes. Jordan Murchison got his second goal on 52 minutes when he finished off a fine move. Goal number five came on 54 minutes when Will Cowie rocketed the ball home from 30 yards out. Another screamer followed on 57 minutes as Jordan Murchison completed his hat-trick to make it 6-0. A minute later, Will Cowie provided the finishing touch to a good Skye move to get his second goal of the game which made it 7-0. Danny Morrison got his second goal to make it 8-0 on 61 minutes. With Skye scoring seven times in a breath-taking 16 minute spell, manager John MacLeod made some changes. Chris MacLennan came on for Iain Murray, Alan Palmer replaced Kenny MacLeod and John MacKenzie was introduced instead of Danny Morrison. Skye continued to press and John MacKenzie was unlucky when his fine individual effort ended with the ball cleared off the goal-line. Skye pushed Neil MacVicar into the forward line for the final 10 minutes. Taynuilt fought back to produce a late rally and Iain MacLeod made a fantastic save with hand on 85 minutes and then, just two minutes later, he pulled off a great save with stick to keep his clean sheet intact. With just a couple of minutes remaining, a super move from the Skye forwards ended with Neil MacVicar on hand to push the ball home from 5 yards to round off the 9-0 win. Skye Camanachd will now travel to Ganavan to play on-form Oban Celtic in the SSE Scottish Hydro Camanachd Cup first round proper.
