Steven MacKenzie Appointed Camanachd Association Marketing & Communication Director | |
18 March 2016 Steven MacKenzie has been co-opted onto the Camanachd Association Board of Directors to fill a vacant Director’s position, taking responsibility for matters relating to Marketing & Communication. Steven MacKenzie learned his shinty at Beauly Primary School and represented Beauly Shinty Club at all age group levels before progressing to the reserves and eventually the senior team. In 1994 he went to study Politics & Philosophy at the University of Aberdeen, which was the start a long association with the University’s shinty club, the game’s oldest constituted club, going on to play with them for 19 seasons until 2013. During this period he represented Scottish Universities in each of his four years as a student. His proudest moment was coaching and captaining Aberdeen University to their fourth Sutherland Cup success with a win over Kilmallie at Pairc nan Laoch, Portree in season 2005. To mark the club’s 150th anniversary, Steven authored a book on the club’s history; “Keeping the Camanachd Flag Flying: 150 Years of Aberdeen University Shinty Club”. He also led the organising committee that ensured this significant milestone was marked appropriately by bringing the Aberdein Considine Sutherland Cup Final to Aberdeen for the first time. Steven continues to fill the role of Aberdeen University Honourary President and he was surprised and delighted when his hard work was recognised with the Paterson Salver for Volunteer of the Year award in season 2011. Steven joined the Royal Mail 1998 and was relocated to Inverness in 2013, where he currently works as a Continuous Improvement Manager. His return to the area saw him quickly back involved with Beauly Shinty Club as a committee member before taking on the role of Secretary in 2014. Steven recently completed his UKCC Grade 2 shinty coaching qualification aims to assist the current management team when time permits. Steven MacKenzie’s period of co-option runs until the 2016 Camanachd Association Annual General Meeting when he can formally stand to be elected as a Director. |
