Skye Suffer Kilmallie Defeat - Kilmallie 3 Skye Camanachd 1 | |
18 March 2013 Skye Camanachd lost 3-2 to Kilmallie in their Marine Harvest North Division 1 meeting at the Canal Parks on Saturday 16 March 2013. Kilmallie manager Duncan Kelly was on holiday so Donald Lamont and Peter Carmichael (senior) looked after the side. They were without the services of the injured John Stewart. Gilleasbuig MacDonald returned for Skye after missing the draw with Strathglass. Iain Murray was also included and started on the bench but both Iain Nicolson and Shaun Hedley were working. Kilmallie made a good start to this 2.30pm throw up and they took the lead after just 5 minutes when Grant MacKenzie fired home. The Skye forwards looked really lively in the first half and home keeper Kevin Toye stood between them and an interval lead. He made brilliant saves from Danny Morrison twice, Jordan Murchison, Chris Rose and Neil MacVicar twice – all rocket shots which Toye saved expertly with his stick. Skye levelled 5 minutes from the interval when Danny Morrison blocked a Kevin Toye clearance and scored from a tight angle. It was a good finish and boosted the visitors going into the break. Mark Graham put Kilmallie back in front a couple of minutes after the restart and Grant MacKenzie got his second on 64 minutes to make it 3-1. Keeper Toye was also on top form in the second half saving two blistering drives from Jordan Murchison and a 30 yard effort from Gilleasbuig MacDonald. Kilmallie took Michael Rodger back into defence in the second half which made a big difference to their side. Kilmallie took their chances and the win takes them two points clear at the top of the table following a third straight win and with games against Inverness and Strathglass coming up, they must be confident of taking maximum points from the first set of five fixtures. In keeper Kevin Toye, the had the man of the match. Skye were disappointed with the result but not with their performance. However manager Willie MacRae must be concerned to have fallen three points behind Kilmallie at this early stage in the season.
