Skye Set For Balliemore Cup Final | |
29 September 2021 The preparations are almost complete as Skye Camanachd meet Beauly in the Alvance British Aluminium Balliemore Cup Final at An Arid, Fort William on Saturday 2 October 2021. Captain Colin MacRae of Balliemore ran a shinty tournament in the Kyles of Bute area in the early 20th century. The trophy was donated by his brother Major MacRae of Gilstrap. After a long period without being played, the trophy was presented to the Camanachd Association by Captain Duncan MacRae of Eilean Donan to be contested by teams at intermediate level from 1985. Skye reached this year’s final with wins over Lochcarron (5-0), Aberdour (5-0) and Inveraray (3-2). Beauly’s route to the final saw them see off Glenurquhart (3-1), Inverness (10-0) and Bute (7-0). Each club has featured in four finals. Skye have previously won the competition in 2008 and 2014 whilst they were runners-up in 1999 and 2003, losing both finals following penalty shoot-outs. Beauly’s only success was in 2015 but were beaten finalists in 2006, 2012 and 2013. Throw up is at 2.30pm and the final will be played to a finish. Alex MacVicar is the match referee. The final will be broadcast LIVE on Radio Skye’s “Camanachd LIVE” show from 2pm. |
