Skye Scots Set For Shinty / Camogie Clash | |
10 April 2018 Three Skye Camanachd players are included as Women’s shinty focus turns to the international scene as the Scotland Development Squad play the Britain Camogie Select in a Shinty / Camogie clash at Tir Chonaill GAA, Greenford, London on Saturday 14 April 2018. Scotland Head Coach Kirsty Deans, assisted by Niamh Donnelly selected an 18-player squad for this 2pm throw-in, all of who did not play in last year’s international win over County Dublin. There are places for Skye Camanachd trio Sarah Corrigall, Ilana Paterson and Izzy Law. Nicola MacSween was also initially selected but has been ruled out through injury so Katy Minard comes in in her place. The Development Squad serves as a pathway for talented players to improve their skills under the guidance of the WCA coaching team, whilst also serving to familiarise the players with the physical, technical and psychological standards demanded to represent their country. Scotland senior Head Coach Stuart Reid has kept a watchful eye over proceedings, providing a link to the full international squad. Formed in 1986, Britain Camogie are made up of 10 clubs from around the country with their senior champions travelling to Ireland to play in the All-Ireland Junior Club Championship every year. The WCA are hopeful this will be the start of a long and successful partnership with Britain Camogie which will allow women’s shinty to build on the existing links with Dublin Camogie to provide the Development and U18 squads with a higher standard of competition. The WCA is also are delighted to be linking up with the English Shinty Association as part of the trip. The development squad players and players and coaches will take part in a mixed shinty skills training session on Saturday morning, and will finish off with an exhibition match after the Shinty / Camogie challenge match.
