Skye Referee John Angus Gillies Awarded Grade One Status | |
02 September 2013 Skye referee John Angus Gillies has been awarded Grade 1 status from the start of the 2014 shinty season. The new grading will mean that former Skye Camanachd player Gillies will be able to regularly referee top flight matches from next season. Gillies, who returned to refereeing this season following two major knee operations and a period of rehabilitation, is “delighted and humbled” by his new grading. So far this season, he has been the man in the middle at a MacTavish Juvenile Cup Final as well as refereeing the Aberdein Considine Sutherland Cup Final between Lochcarron and Ballachullish. He was also goal judge at the Co-operative MacTavish Cup Final between Lovat and Glenurquhart and fourth official at the Scottish Hydro Camanachd Cup semi-final between Newtonmore and Fort William. To round off a successful season, Gillies, who collected a Camanachd Cup winners medal with Skye Camanachd in 1990, will referee Womens shinty’s show-piece match; the Valerie Fraser Cup Final between Glasgow Mid Argyll and Badenoch & Strathspey at the Eilan next Saturday. |
