Skye Camanachd U17 5 Kilmallie U17 0 | |
26 May 2016 A powerful first half performance helped Skye Camanachd U17 to a 5-0 win over Kilmallie U17 in their MacTavish Juvenile Cup second round tie at Pairc nan Laoch, Portree on Tuesday 24 May 2016. Skye coach Davie Pringle named the same squad which beat Glenurquhart U17 in their London Shield meeting a fortnight earlier. Skye received a first round bye when Lochaber U17 were unable to raise a team for their tie at Spean Bridge. Skye played towards the Struan Road end of the ground in the first half of this 6.45pm throw up. Skye put pressure on the Kilmallie goal in the early stages and Ross Gordon sent a shot just over the bar before seeing another attempt saved with his feet by Kilmallie keeper Callum Dingwall. A turn and shot from Ruaraidh MacLeod put Skye ahead after 13 minutes. Ross Gordon then burst through the Kilmallie defence but his shot cannoned off keeper Dingwall. Ross Gordon then slipped the ball to Ruaraidh MacLeod but his shot went just over the top. And it was MacLeod again who made it 2-0 on 28 minutes with a superb individual goal. He picked the ball up 30 yards from goal and weaved his way through the Kilmallie defence, beating four defenders on the way, before lifting the ball past the keeper and into the net. James Pringle added a third on the half-hour mark after the Kilmallie defence were unable to clear their lines following a Skye free-hit. Skye took a 4-0 lead into the break when Ruaraidh MacLeod collected the ball by the corner flag on the Skye left. He beat his marker with a great turn before playing the ball low into the D. A Kilmallie defender missed the cross and Ross Gordon was on hand to take advantage. Stewart Taylor came on for two-goal Ruaraidh MacLeod at the break with the Skye forward carrying an injury. Whilst Skye dominated the first half, Kilmallie were a different proposition after the break. Kilmallie full centre Calum MacDougall sent a shot from midfield just past Skye keeper Jack Henderson’s left post with the Skye goalie watching the ball carefully. Kilmallie continued to press and Jack Henderson saved well with his feet. Kilmallie substitute Leona Falconer was causing Skye problems on the Kilmallie right as the visitors stayed in search of a goal. Skye made a double change as Calum Robertson and Mark MacQueen came on for Angus MacDonald and Martin Pringle. Ruaraidh MacLeod came back on with 15 minutes remaining. Skye goalie Jack Henderson had to come off his line to thwart Cameron Ross at the expense of a corner. Skye’s fifth goal came against the run of play. James Pringle played the ball wide to Ross Gordon and he cut the ball back from the Skye right to Ruaraidh MacLeod who found the back of the net to complete his hat-trick and make it 5-0. Skye Camanachd U17 will now play Kinlochshiel U17 in the MacTavish Juvenile Cup semi-finals with Kingussie U17 playing Fort William in the other last-four tie. Skye’s John Gillies and Kilmallie’s Calum Robertson had a great tussle in the middle of the park and Skye’s better finishing, particularly in the first half, made the difference in the end.
