15 May 2014 Skye Camanachd U17 went down to a 2-1 defeat to Lochcarron U17 in their MacTavish Juvenile Cup first round tie at Pairc nan Laoch on Wednesday 7 May 2014. Kyle Pirie and Johnathan Laing were missing for Skye. The Lochcarron team is complemented by players from Kinlochshiel and Lochbroom who have been unable to raise teams of their own. The sides met at Battery Park in the London Shield a week earlier with Skye running out narrow 1-0 winners. Skye got off to a great start in this 7pm throw-up. Home full forward Ryan Morrison charged down a clearance from Lochcarron keeper and he thumped the ball into the net to make it 1-0with 6 minutes played. Ryan Morrison came close to doubling Skye’s advantage after a good passing move. However Skye Youth Coach Davie Pringle was forced into game’s first change when Ryan Morrison went over on his ankle and he had to be replaced. Lochcarron started to come more into the game and they equalised on 24 minutes. The Skye defence passed up a couple of opportunities to clear their lines and Nick Dalgety crashed the ball into the roof of the Skye net to make it 1-1. The visitors almost went in front when a long ball from wing centre Chris Townend was superbly controlled by Fergus Dobson but Skye keeper Gavin Finnie darted off his line before deflecting Dobson’s shot past the post. Lochcarron took the lead on 38 minutes when Colin MacRae latched on to a ball through the middle of the Skye defence and although Gavin Finnie almost kept his shot out, the ball spun into the net to make it 2-1. Lochcarron dominated the start of the second half but couldn’t add to their tally. Skye came much more into the game in the final quarter and they tested the home defence. However the Lochcarron back line, for whom full back Johnny MacAskill was excellent, stood firm and they saw out the remainder of the game to reach the next round.
