Skye Camanachd Support League Reconstruction Moves | |
26 November 2014 Skye Camanachd have opted to support the proposal for league reconstruction ahead of the start of the 2015 shinty season. Skye Camanachd, supported by Kingussie, Kyles Athletic and Newtonmore, took a stance against the league reconstruction which was introduced for the 2014 shinty season. However although the move attracted 55% support from members, it failed to gather the 75% vote required in order to overturn the Camanachd Association’s plans. Perhaps crucially, the Camanachd Association has not come out against against the current proposal, led by Kingussie and Newtonmore, so a vote of just over 50% is required for further change to take place. Although the new proposal retains the Marine Harvest National Division – which Skye remain against – Skye have agreed that the overall package, especially the return to a ten team Orion Group Premiership – is better than the structure which is currently in place so they will vote in favour of change. The proposal will be voted on at the Camanachd Association Annual General Meeting in Fort William on Friday 28 November 2014. Skye would also have voted in favour of Kingussie’s concept for a phased introduction of shinty helmets but that proposal has since been withdrawn. |
