27 February 2016 The Skye Camanachd seconds, ladies and primary school teams were all in action on Saturday 27 February 2016. The Skye Camanachd second team lifted the “Kaid” MacLean Cup following a 3-0 win over Lewis Camanachd at Pairc nan Laoch, Portree. It took Skye 33 minutes to break through a determined Lewis defence when Iain MacLellan did well to win possession before thumping the ball into the roof of the net. When a 43 minute John Angus MacInnes shot ended up in the Lewis net off the foot of keeper Eoghan Stewart, Skye took a 2-0 lead into the break. A superb deft flick from Ryan Morrison made it 3-0 on 66 minutes. Some heroic goalkeeping from Eoghan Stewart kept the score down with Al Reed and Seumas Charity also excellent in the Lewis defence. Skye captain David Grant was presented with the “Kaid” MacLean Cup after the match. The Skye Camanachd Ladies won the inaugural Cuach a' Chairdeas, a trophy in memory of Joy Robson, thanks to a win over Lewis Camanachd Ladies at the Portree High School astro pitch. Ilana Paterson put Skye ahead and goals followed from Lorna MacRae, Anna MacDonald, Abby MacLean and a Jenna Beaton hat-trick before Poppy Taylor pulled a goal back for Lewis to make it 7-1. Skye increased their lead thanks to second strikes from Anna MacDonald and Lorna MacRae which made it 9-1. Emma Gordon added a tenth whilst a fourth from Jenna Beaton, a Nicola MacSween brace and a Rhianna Kirk goal made it 14-1. It was a brilliant day for Skye youth shinty at the 2016 RBS National First Shinty Festival in Fort William. Twenty seven teams from across Scotland have made it through to the 17th annual one-day finals following a series of local qualifying tournaments involving over 100 teams. MacDiarmid reached the final of the P5 (& under) tournament at Lochaber High School before losing out to Inverlochy. Portree Cheetahs also took part. The older Portree Cheetahs side went one better as they won the P6-7 tournament at the Nevis Centre, Fort William with Kyleakin reaching the semi-finals. Really well done to all involved. |
