26 July 2014 The Skye Camanachd first and second teams had contrasting fortunes today whilst the Skye Ladies are planning a trip to the Inverness Sixes. The Skye Camanachd first team made it eight Marine Harvest North Division 1 wins out of eight with a 5-2 victory over the Lovat reserves in their noon throw up at Balgate on Saturday 26 July 2014. Skye had Neil MacVicar, Jordan Murchison and Ally “Cleodi” MacLeod added to the squad which beat Lovat 2-0 at Pairc nan Laoch, Portree last weekend whilst Calum Gibb was included for the first time this season. Iain Murray and Shockie MacLennan were both missing, Danny Morrison was on holiday and Kenny Campbell remained out with a hand injury. Lovat boss Graeme MacMillan had several players back from the side which performed admirably in Portree last weekend and one of their returning players, Danny Kelly, put his side in front on 34 minutes when his shot took a deflection off a Skye defender and looped over keeper Jamie Gannon into the net. A Jordan Murchison rocket shot from the edge of the D levelled the game on 49 minutes. Skye went in front a couple of minutes later when Ally “Spod” MacLeod sent another blistering drive, on his backhand, into the top corner of the net. Will Cowie put Skye 3-1 up on 55 minutes and although a Conall MacIllechiar shot from distance bounced into the Skye net on 66 minutes, the Islanders finished strongly. Aonghas MacDonald showed his strength as he held off several challenges before flicking the ball home on 75 minutes and Ally “Cleodi” MacLeod darted in from wing and sent a tidy finish past Chris MacCallum a minute later to make it 5-2. Next up for Skye is a home meeting with Inverness on Saturday 2 August 2014. The Skye Camanachd lost 3-1 to Kinlochshiel in their Marine Harvest North Division 2 derby at Kirkton on Saturday 26 July 2014. Skye made a good start to the game and they pinned ‘Shiel back during the opening 10 minutes. However the home side came more into the game and they took the lead when on 21 minutes when Aedan MacRae strode forward from midfield and his bouncing shot flew high into the net past Skye keeper Iain MacLeod. Skye levelled 5 minutes later when Angie MacDonald latched onto a John Gillies flick and he held off his marker and beat keeper Iain Cameron at his right post. ‘Shiel went back in front on 41 minutes when David Falconer crashed a 22 yard shot high into the net to make it 2-1. Skye pressed hard to get a leveller in the closing stages of the match and it took a brilliant save from Iain Cameron under his crossbar to keep his side in front. Skye were hit by a sucker-punch in the final minute when good play from Stuart Anderson saw the ball crossed in on goal and Ross MacRae put the ball over the line from just a yard out. David Falconer was excellent for ‘Shiel whilst Chris MacLennan was the pick of the Skye players. Skye have another derby next weekend as they travel to Battery Park to play Lochcarron. The Skye Camanachd Ladies did not have a league fixture but they take part in the Inverness Sixes on Sunday 27 July 2014. The Skye Camanachd U17 will not be back in action until after the school holidays. Skye Camanachd A U14 and Skye Camanachd B U14 will also not be back in action until after the school holidays. |
