Skye Camanachd Saturday Shinty Shorts | |
23 June 2014 Skye Camanachd reached the Strathdearn Cup semi-finals and the Skye Ladies are through to the Valerie Fraser Cup Final for the first time following this week’s shinty action. The Skye Camanachd first team were originally scheduled to play Strathglass at Cannich in Marine Harvest North Division 1. However Strathglass had their nominated “Free Saturday” this weekend and there is no alternative fixture for the Islanders. The Skye Camanachd second team beat Kilmallie 5-2 after extra time at the Canal Parks on Saturday 21 June 2014 to reach the Strathdearn Cup semi-finals. Craig MacIsaac had twice put Kilmallie ahead during the 90 minutes but Skye pulled goals back each time through Iain MacLellan and Alan Palmer. A terrific Will Cowie shot from distance during the second half extra time put Skye ahead for the first time in the tie. A late second from Alan Palmer and an Angie MacDonald goal sealed a semi-final meeting with Strathspey on Saturday 5 July. The semi-final venue will be decided by a toss of the coin. The Skye Camanachd Ladies are through to the Valerie Cup Fraser Cup Final following their 2-1 semi-final win over Glengarry Ladies at Balgate on Sunday 22 June 2014. Paige MacDonald had given Glengarry a 13 minute lead. However a goal from Anna MacDonald on 25 minutes made it 1-1 at the break. The winning goal came just 3 minutes from time when Caitlin MacLean scored to put the Skye Ladies through to the Valerie Cup Fraser Cup Final for the first time. Skye Camanachd U17 were to have had a London Shield meeting with Lochaber U17 at Pairc nan Laoch, Portree but the visitors were unable to raise a team so the tie will be rescheduled for a later date. Skye Camanachd A U14 beat Skye Camanachd B U14 4-0 in their Local League meeting at Pairc nan Loach, Portree on Wednesday 18 June 2014. Ruaraidh MacLeod and Anna MacDonald scored two each. |
