Skye Camanachd Saturday Shinty Shorts | |
19 April 2014 Two Skye Camanachd teams were in action on Saturday 19 April 2014. The Skye Camanachd first team pulled off a terrific 3-2 extra time win over Lochaber in their RBS MacTavish Plate quarter final tie at Pairc nan Laoch, Portree. The Islanders knew they would be in for a tough test against Orion Group Premiership side Lochaber and their task was made more difficult when a Shaun Nicolson shot looped into the net after just 2 minutes. Skye’s Will Cowie had the ball in the net on 21 minutes but play was brought back because referee Dave Stafford had blown seconds earlier to award the Islanders a penalty. Will Cowie confidently converted from the spot to make it 1-1. Skye went in front on 41 minutes when Danny Morrison played the ball downwards into the net from above his head following a Gibbs MacDonald corner on the right. Lochaber pressed Skye in the closing stages and a stoppage time leveller from Shaun Nicolson took the tie into extra time. The winning goal came just 3 minutes after the restart when Will Cowie sent a backhand drive low into the Lochaber net. Will Cowie also crashed a shot off the bar and the victory takes Skye through to a semi final meeting with Lochcarron or Inverness on Saturday 17 May 2014. The Skye Camanachd second team went down to a 6-2 Marine Harvest North Division 2 defeat to Lochaber at Spean Bridge. John Murphy scored both Skye goals but a Kevin Ferguson hat-trick, a brace from Danny Delaney and a Conor Sweeney strike gave Lochaber their first league win of the season.
