Skye Camanachd Saturday Shinty Shorts | |
16 May 2015 It was another busy week for Skye Camanachd with five teams in action as the club joined others in remembering the centenary of Festubert. Kingussie lifted the John “Kaid” MacLean cup with a sudden-death penalty shoot-out win over Skye Camanachd at Pairc nan Laoch, Portree on Saturday 16 May 2015. Skye started well and Will Cowie put them ahead following a goalmouth scramble on 15 minutes. Kingussie levelled on 26 minutes when John Gibson drove the ball home and that’s the way it stayed until the break. Kingussie took the lead on 57 minutes when the Skye defence failed to halt a superb run forward from Kingussie’s James Falconer and the youngster slipped the ball into the net to make it 2-1. Skye levelled on 70 minutes. Danny Morrison burst forward from the left and his initial shot was saved by Kings’ keeper Craig Dawson but Jordan Murchison put the rebound into the back of the net to make it 2-2. A great Jordan Murchison strike across keeper Dawson made it 3-2 on 82 minutes. However with just a couple of minutes remaining, Skye failed to clear a corner from the Kings right and Rory MacGregor thumped the ball high into the net to make it 3-3. The contest went straight to penalties and after the first ten spot-hits; the sides were level at two-each. Savio Genini and John Gibson were on target for Kingussie with Will Cowie and Steven Morrison replying for Skye. Genini and Cowie scored again with Rory MacGregor netting for the Badenoch side and then Craig Dawson crucially saved from Jordan Murchison to give Kingussie the win. Kingussie captain Lee Bain was presented with the John “Kaid” MacLean trophy by members of the MacLean family. A powerful first half performance helped the Skye Camanachd second team beat SCOTS Camanachd 8-4 in a match switched to the Portree High School Astro pitch on Saturday 16 May 2015. Skye played with the wind advantage in the first half but they were shocked as the Forces side went ahead from the throw up with Ewen Graham getting the goal. Skye levelled straight from the restart with James Pringle on target. Angie MacDonald put Skye 2-1 up after 5 minutes and John Gillies scored on 8, 14 and 27 minutes – although the latter effort may have come off a SCOTS defender – to make it 5-1. The Skye forward line of Angie MacDonald, John Gillies and James Pringle was causing the SCOTS defence all sorts of problems and John Gillies got his fourth goal of the day to make it 6-1 on 26 minutes. Colin Irving pulled a goal back for the SCOTS a couple of minutes later but John Gillies grabbed his fifth goal of the afternoon on 40 minutes to make it 7-2. SCOTS Camanachd had the wind advantage in the second half and Fraser MacKenzie made it 7-3 20 minutes after the restart. John MacKenzie netted for Skye 6 minutes after but only another 2 minutes elapsed before Arran Devine responded to make it 8-4 and Skye saw out the remainder of the game to seal victory. The Skye Camanachd Ladies drew 0-0 with WCA Marine Harvest National Division 1 leaders Badenoch & Strathspey in a match switched to the Portree High School Astro pitch on Saturday 16 May 2015. This was a terrific contest with both keepers in top form. The closest attempts on goal both came in the second half. First, Skye goalie Sarah Corrigall dived to her left to brilliantly turn away a deflected Kirsty Deans drive whilst at the other end; Elizabeth MacGregor came off her line to block a shot from Lorna MacRae. Skye Camanachd U17 made their first appearance of the season as they beat Glenurquhart 2-0 in their London Shield clash at Blairbeg on Tuesday 12 May 2015. After a goalless first half, John Gillies gave Skye the lead on 48 minutes. Sean MacCallum netted just 3 minutes later to seal the 3-1 win. Skye Camanachd U14 continued on their winning way with a 4-1 victory over Kinlochshiel U14 at Pairc nan Laoch, Portree on Wednesday 13 May 2015. The Skye goals came from Calum Robertson on 26 and 45 minutes and Connor Gilpin on 58 and 65 minutes. Ciaran Kellett was on target for ‘Shiel. |
