14 June 2014 Just one Skye Camanachd match went ahead this weekend with the Skye Camanachd first team reaching the Balliemore Cup Final with a 3-1 win over Inverness. The Skye Camanachd first team reached the Balliemore Cup Final for the first time since 2008 with a 3-1 win over Inverness at Battery Park on Saturday 14 June 2014. Skye went in front on 8 minutes when Kenny Campbell did well to get away from his marker on the right before crossing to Shockie MacLennan who flicked the ball into the air before volleying it into the net. Kenny Campbell turned scorer on 33 minutes as he flicked home a cross from the left. Inverness goalie Stuart MacRae kept his side in the game with a couple of terrific first half saves. Inverness made a strong start to the second half and former Skye player Dougie Rankin sent a drive from the left high into the Skye net to make it 2-1. This meant for a nervy period in the match before, with a just a couple of minutes remaining, Skye substitute David Grant got the deftest of touches onto a free-hit and fellow substitute Kenny MacLeod crashed the ball past Stuart MacRae to make it 3-1. Skye now await the outcome of next weekend’s semi final meeting between Aberdour and Ballachulish at the Eilan. The 2014 Balliemore Final will take place at The Taynuilt Playing Field on Saturday 12 July 2014. The Local League fixture between Kinlochshiel U14 and Skye Camanachd A U14 at Kirkton on Friday 13 June 2014 was postponed for the third time because of an unplayable pitch. |
